I have to say 3 if you go into a specific niche. Also for #1, I would just cross that out, that is way hard to market (trust issue and the fact that your competitors are HUGE)

Yes, I agree with w3bmaster, do what you love and know. Don't just follow market trend if you know nothing about that niche or else you end up being lost and disillusion along the way.

Haha, I've actually experienced that before: If you don't do what you love.. you usually end up losing motivation to continue on with it. I find that when I'm starting a project in which I love the niche, it seems more fun.. like a hobby :D

Well, why not. I mean if you have the passion for it, there is nothing stopping you from doing it. It is not impossible but you really need a lot of passion for it and to work your bones to get it up and self-sustaining. It is a hard road but not an impossible one. If you do not have the passion and the drive, it is easy to get disillusion and give up.

The thing about Forums and Auctions is this Chicken-and-the-egg issue. They are only good if there is a critical mass. You need an active forum and auction site to encourage people to sign up, participate and stay. But to get active, you need to get people to sign up and most would not if they do not see activities.

Would you sign up and stay with a forum if it is empty or have very few people or posts ? Would you list your product for sale in an auction site which does not have other products listed or that only a handful of people visits it and place bids ?

So you will need to either start slowing and grow through there or go in a big way by heavy investment in advertisement or partnership with some big names in the industry.

If you could tie up with a huge retail chain or something and offer their products up for online auction and publicize the service, it could kickstart the business.

Start a directory and and make it a PR8 if possible. That would make a lot of money!

Start with directory. But make sure you research the market and choose your niche.

Try looking for websites that are looking to up the PR. If you stay in a related field, and have a good PR, you will have a good customer base.
