I am choosing a domain name for internet marketing. Pretty generic..basically just a bunch of articles, its main purpose will be for affiliate cloaking redirects so links look better. My question is, with such a crowded market, should i focus on keywords like internet marketing, ecommerce, cashflow online, etc be the most important or some kind of unique name that might stand out more such as baby(a name here)s-ecommerce...using one of my kids names just for fun and to distinquish it. Or just stick with pure keyword phrase?
Although there is some benefit to having the keyword in your domain, I would choose branding if your intent is to build a high quality site.
I agree... It is a tough balance though...there are times when I would say go with keywords (as long as it makes sense and doesn't sound spammy), and some with company name. If you're planning on making a legit company, that will exist offline as well, the main domain should be the name of the company. It's ok though to have secondary domains that are keyword based. Some companies are smart and have keywords in the name of the company and then therefore the domain, like SEOmoz.org, and SEOBook.com.
I was also thinking of combining the keyword with a brand name...it would be more generic keyword though..otherwise the name would be too long. The main purpose would be to have a good looking url for link cloaking..using php redirect. I would also have content on there but I wouldn't be looking to put much into the content any time soon.
