I think that is a right (and insane man!) method!

Backlink with anchor that you want and visitors...

I wrote about the techniques I use for forum posting here: Forum Link Building tips (it's not just your signiture!)

You can do 40 forums a month in an hour a week if you follow the advice laid out in that post...

The most important part of working forums like this is to be human. No one likes bots, and no one likes spam. If you come across as if you are a part of the community, then you will be received better, and you'll find that fellow humans are more inclined to click your sig links.

forum sigs are great, a good way to find popular forums is to use

    http://www.big-boards.com/

alot of them don't allow sig links, just do a few a day and you should still end up with plenty of sig links

Exactly. 3-5 *high quality* posts everyday in every significant forum you are a visitor of, will bring you unthought-of results ;)

Just posting for posting sake. Why do some forums require a number of posts before they allow you links or signatures?

Because very much people are spamming to get their signatures exposed.

Another reason other than spamming is that alot of people want to get their links on quite a few sites. The more the better so they just sign up and post about 5 posts and then never come back to the forum again. But if they have to post 50 posts before they have their sig activated then at least they have contributed more to the forum this way.

I hate forums where you have to have a certain amount of posts before you can have a signature.

I disagree.... I think its excellent because it means the forum wont gent inundated with peopel wanting to SPAM their sites in their forum.

Its a good idea to make members build a reputation before being allowed signature links. Or any links in fact!

How is your traffic converting? Is it targeted traffic? What sort of text are you using in your signatures, and what is the nature of your site?

A large number of visitors is nice! :) But if they are not targeted, it's just a waste of your bandwidth.

Are those forums just "general discussion" forums or specific? I mean you wouldn't go post on a car forum if your site had nothing to do with cars would you?

You shouldn't...but plenty of people do it...

I love the sites that require a certain amount of posts, every forum I have has this type of thing enabled...forums are for posting and getting involved...not posting your link and going on your way :D

joining 40+ forums seems a bit labor intensive for 100 refers a day. not to mention you have to keep active if you want those links to be visible, and being active on 400 forums is a full time job.

Hence the reason for all the forum SPAM bots that fill our forums with absolute crap!

Ill agree though I have also found that forum signatures work... they work even better if you spend the time and reply with decent, meaningful, helpful posts.

Signature links obviously should work if a member post frequently per day...

Because this is a very very high traffic forum ( traffic from search engines too - because its SEO friendly forum - ranks high on almost any webmaster related google querry.)

400+ forums would likely be too much for anyone, but 40 forums can be done (monthly) with just an hour a week. 40 one way links for an hours time works out cheaper then many paid features...

If it's a niche site that you actually have an interest in, then taking a bit longer to actually post QUALITY content (on the other sites) will being in more quality traffic as well. Though, if you are doing this, be sure to put the best content on your own site first (and maybe link to it now and again).

It can also be fun at time *shrug* but then, I enjoy forums, so maybe I'm just different...

Same for me :)...so you must not be too different...or maybe we are both just different (but i doubt it)...

I'm a very active member on about 6 forums, and an active member on probably another 20-25 (i'm gonna start looking for more though, to increase my fun...and traffic :))
