You would have to work out some type of deal with them. It would be possible to work out a deal where people paid $X to see it and the company gets a fraction of X. Don't see this happening though.

Well, you most definitely answered your question by saying it is illegal.

However if you want to still broadcast them, you will need to approach the copyright owners and strike a deal with them to broadcast the shows. You will most likely need to pay some licensing fees and royalties. It can be based on a flat fee or per user fees.

There are some who do it legally and some who do not illegally.

I see now that the trend is that some TV stations like NBC broadcast their shows online after it is shown but since they own the rights to their shows, they can do what they want.

The people that own the rights to movies won't give you the license to show their movie because they broadcast it on television and sell DVDs. They money they make from those channels will far outweigh what you can offer. It's best to create your own content or video.

Well, of course if you are paying royalties, they can make money off you but if you do it without paying them anything, how would they earn a cent ?

There is always licensing laws so check with the copyright owners as to what your best option are.

If you are huge like Youtube, you might be able to work out a deal with the copyright owners which should be favorable to you.

Even iTunes has had trouble getting licensed content in their store. For another startup that is trying to do something similar check out Joost.

Even if the idea is great, most major media companies will not talk to small businesses about broadcasting their full length movies on the Internet.

yup, Joost will be the next big thing. These guys already did skype and the future is on-demand tv. Integrated PC, TV, DVD. Recording TV will be a thing of the past soon. It'll be stored on your Google account for example. Everything will be pay per view soon. Or you can watch online but the adverts will still appear every 15 mins.

They already make millions. What they want is someone that has a new way that will make them billions.
