I guess the only thing that does bothers me is they are a fellow dp'er lol

I guess its just annoying lol

What do you guys think about this? or has it happened to you?

Have a word with those DP-ers I don't think it's right that they should steal your content.

I too hate content stealers. My site was on the homepage of Digg and the article has been stolen many times. I do make the distinction between a thief and someone who just doesn't understand copyright.

A lot of my "stolen" content is made up of people posting my articles in forums word for word. While I'm glad people like my article, I ask to have it removed because I don't want my site to be flagged for duplicate content.

I got very upset with one guy once and sent a DMCA off to Dreamhost. They are easy enough for a webmaster to write. Within two days, his entire blog was removed.

Having someone's entire site taken down due to a stolen article may seem harsh, but in some cases I think it is necessary. These people will just keep on taking your work without even acknowledging you with no remorse. I also fear these content thieves will prevent my site, which is new, from doing well in the SERPs.

If you need help writing a DMCA, PM me. They aren't hard to write once you get the hang of it and there are several sample ones on the web.

I think everyone hates content steelers. I don't have written content as much as I have file content, and it always gets stolen. I hate it. No word for it. I always switch the links like twice a week, so the incoming hotlinks redirect to the main page, that way I get some sort of "pay" in exchange. I used to use .htaccess to block them but then I always ran into problems with users who have no idea how to right click + save as.

Anyway, I am going to start a blog and I suck at writing so I will probably hire someone to write for me for a bit.

Sometimes, I'll lay out the text exactly how I want it and then convert it into a .gif or .png so it cant be thieved. Then, in my source description I put the actual text and use a few simple javascripts to prevent right click and webpage saving.

Actually the most authoritative site is the one that gets credit for the original content, they don't go by who posted it first - so if they get bigger than you, you could get filtered.

    I voted, yes.

In the business I run, I create code, that owners of other sites liek mine add to their site, to make it more fun for the users(we make games). In the business I do, I can't relaly stop them from just passing it on to other site owners. I have looked for ways, but nothing is 100%. Most of the time, I don't even see the real transfer, I just hear about it.

It sucks, but you can't really do anything about it.

Half of the members here have automated blogs. It's really sad that people steal content cause they're too stupid to create their own. And to answer your question, I've had dozens of people steal my content, and yes even people from here.

content stealers should go to articles directories where the content are freely distributable. the sad thing is they steal your content and put their name on it.. :D to make it worst, they're making revenues through adsense..

This is the weirdest ripper ever:

    http://passivemode.net/updates/2007/1/10/wep-cracking-revisited.html

That whole article including the video he links to was all written and made by me. I don't see one advertisement of any kind on there. I really wonder what's in it for him...

I'm a newbie to this blog thing and I guess I'll learn as I go along. So far no one has stolen one of mine. I have only written two and only posted them on a couple of sites. I'll look out for the thieves!

    Regards,

I had someone (another designer) post a forum that I designed on his portfolio page...i contacted him, my client contacted him, and some 'associates' contacted him...and he always answered...but didn't want to do the right thing even though i had tons of proof...

sad to say (for him)...that I eventually contacted all his advertisers and partners to let them know what was going on...within 3 days my stuff was off his site...

sometimes you just have to be mean, but gosh it sure would be nice if people would just make their own stuff or buy it the right way...i've never understood why someone would want to steal someone elses work...specially a direct copy that will usually just make them look worse than they already are...

I will let people take my content but i prevent them using this by doing the following steps.

    1) On every web page put a log link in so that the file detects what pages have been saved.

    2) When the code gets done i have some of my ACB coding in place so i know where its been put.

    3) I contact the web host hosting the perpertrator and they remove his / her hosting account.

Thats the best way i have found.

Interesting that you've had success with #3. I've tried that and never had any success. Usually web hosting companies are more interested in keeping the business so they ignore such requests.

And to answer the original question. Yes, content thieves (i.e. lazy people) ignore the heck out of me.

I think host deleting them depends on if they paid in advance. If they paid in advance, they don't have to refund the people, and there is no reason to keep them.

lisa, rub...you guys must have had some bad experiences about webhosts...any decent web host would instantly make a customer take down a site if they have proof that something is stolen...(though if it's just the first time i don't see why they'd delete the user...they'd just tell them to take it down...then go from there)...

at least that's what a decent host would do...
