Can anyone tell me the advantage of choosing a Reseller Account over just a shared hosting account for this scenario? I want to host 20 sites for my own use (and don't plan on more than 20). Assuming I am not going to need more resources (bandwidth, disc space, etc.) and both offer equal resources, both offer the same price - lets arbitrarily say $30 a month - why would I choose a reseller account over a regular shared account? I guess we could take the scenario one step further - both are offered by the same company at the same price. I do realize with a reseller I could set up accounts for other people with their own passwords, but I'm really looking for just myself and this one project of a group of sites. Finally anyone have opinions as to which User Interface for Reseller accounts is preferred? I currently host a ton of sites spread across many hosts geographically for a number of reasons that have little to do with the hosts themselves. If I choose the reseller option will my support be less from the host than if I have a regular shared account? Meaning (Will they expect me to "know" how to do all the things needed to maintain the accounts). I'm pretty decent at understanding technical issues, but I really don't have time to get involved with them, nor do I care to.
I think one of the main advantages of going the reseller route even if you're just hosting your own sites is giving each their own control panel, which would make it easier if you need to move one or all to another host. Many resellers (the better ones anyway) will use cPanel with WHM, that's the most popular route and for good reasons, it's very easy to use and administer. If you're using cPanel moving accounts and sites to other servers is relatively straight forward and *mostly* headache free. So I think that all other things being equal I'd go ahead and go with the reseller account. It sounds like you're spread out among various accounts, and that's usually good as well, makes it harder to manage everything but downtime at one host doesn't wipe out your entire project Support will depend on the company, usually as the reseller you will get the same support options as any other customer, shared or otherwise (sometimes more), usually I've found that the stipulation is that you have to provide your own support for the people that you've 'resold' to. So, as long as you aren't doing that I don't think it'd be an issue since they're all your sites/accounts. I'm surprised others haven't chimed in, but those are my views.
I would recommend reseller hosting. With unlimited domains you can setup you can allocate the space between each of the websites. Most web hosts now will only let you host upto 10 domains on 1 account. Reseller Hosting is definatly the way to go. Shared hosting would cost more. Dom
Unlimited means nothing to me for this project. The question is what is the advantage of Reseller vs. Shared. I can see a definite benefit to separate CPanels with hosts that use CPanel. I don't know enough about VPN Shared hosting and the 3 or 4 different Administration Panels used. One host I use uses HSphere which is pretty easy to setup multiple accounts with. So the question is more of what am I missing by not using a Reseller Account. The Cpanel issue for hosts that use Cpanel is a good reason. Thanks
You would be saving more money with a reseller account over a shared account. Our base rate for shared hosting is £4.95 per month Our base rate for reseller hosting is £5.00 per month Ive used HSphere before and i must say that cPanel / WHM has more management features plus you can get extra software for it. A good thing you have pointed out is unlimited. If someone offers you an unlimited plan on here (Disk Space and Bandwidth wise) it is impossible as resources would have to end at any point! By not having a Reseller Account it would be harder to manage domain names and web space. Reseller is cheaper also. Dom
If you don't want to resell, take baby plan from hostgator - 10$ pm and you can host 20 or even 1000 sites in that, within 100GB space and 1000Gb bandwidth. That will take only 1/3 of your budget.
