I don't understand this question....its basically a server configuration file...you use it to give instructions to an apache webserver...If you read the wiki article on it, it more than explains it
i read this pera "Will My Host Support It? This is probably the hardest question to give a simple answer to. Many hosts support .htaccess but don't actually publicise it and many other hosts have the capability but do not allow their users to have a .htaccess file. As a general rule, if your server runs Unix or Linux, or any version of the Apache web server it will support .htaccess, although your host may not allow you to use it. A good sign of whether your host allows .htaccess files is if they support password protection of folders. To do this they will need to offer .htaccess (although in a few cases they will offer password protection but not let you use .htaccess). The best thing to do if you are unsure is to either upload your own .htaccess file and see if it works or e-mail your web host and ask them." THat's why i am asking... bcoz one of my url i hosted in google apps.
I want to see “.htaccess†file is any body have use it . Give me screen shot or url. i will be great help for me.
Do a Google search for ".htaccess" .htaccess can help you control who accesses your page. A screenshot will do you no good because they differ based on the situation. You really ask very interesting questions. Here's my advice: 1. If you want to learn SEO and how to rank better, read SEO blogs or Aaron Wall's SEO Book. 2. Google your questions instead of asking 179 of them here. 3. Check del.icio.us posts tagged "SEO" 4. Read, read, and read. First learn. Ask later. I can't tell you how valuable the information is that I provided above. But the most important thing is for you to do the research yourself rather than to ask questions here. If you want to be successful in this market, you can't hope that everyone throws the answers at you -- seriously.
Open Notepad and paste: Change the domain, to your domain name. Save it as .htaccess and upload it to your sites root directory. Or if you cant, name it whatever.htaccess and upload, then rename it on the server to .htaccess Visit http://domain.com and if the URL changes to the www.domain version in your browser, .htaccess is working. http://www.tareeinternet.com/forum/knowledgebase/48-ultimate-guide-htaccess.html
