Like I said you'll find most webmasters that manage their advertising in house use either fixed price or CPM. Offer both options to advertisers, give them options.

For banners I couldn't do that...

there is one banner...i can't offer that one slot to someone for 50 bucks a month (means it has to be there for an entire month), but then have other people pay me for CPM...because both banners would have to go into the same slot....

If I had to pick one which would you choose?...i'm leaning more towards CPM at the moment just because I think I could make more off it.

Why not have a banner rotation? So you can have more than one banner in the rotation.

This is where CPM makes more sense as it means the advertiser definetely knows what they are paying for.

ruby, I will look forward to the launch of AdToll.
You've given me enough confidence to register the domain I've been waiting to register for myself.
Initially, my primary aim is to make enough money off ads to be able to renew my domain name, but all the money I make above that minimum, I think I will use in advertising through your site.

PS: I hope you don't change anything between now and the launch :p

Daniel, I am of the opinion that if you have a site with a good amount of traffic, then CPM may definitely pay better for you. I have another suggestion. Why don't you try some CPC ads for a month (like Adsense/Adbrite/AdToll when it launches), and see how much you're making out of it. Then, you could fix a price on the banner for the CPM and see if someone bids for it (or higher).

I'm planning on having a banner rotation, so truthfully I'm not even sure why I bothered to ask the question since I can't have a rotation with a normal monthly payment...lol

good Idea, I suppose I could try that out :)...funny i didn't even bother to think of that, guess I'm just stuck on have 'real' advertisers

    thanks for the opinions :D
