I got scammed

I bought a script from a website using paypal for 60$. It was a multi cms script & checked the seller's url each time for activation when someone registered a new portal on my website. After a week or so, the seller closed his website, so the script which had errors from beginning got useless as I could not contact the seller.

I put up a claim at Paypal, but they rejected it saying since I downloaded the product electronically, they couldnt do anything.

Can I by any means get my money back ?

If you paid with a credit card you could attempt a chargeback of paypal...but if you ever wanted to use paypal again that would be a bad idea...

other than that...if paypal said no...then...no...

Doesn't look like you will get money back. They delivered you the script you paid for. The quality of script is other issues and unless they have given you guarantee of satisfaction/support there is no case on your side.

Even if they had given guarantee - its going to be useless if they closed down site.

At least you can disclose the script and URL of site which sold it to you.

You can try a charge back if you used your credit card.

I think paypal will not close your account even if you do a charge back.

If you do a chargeback, the chargeback is against Paypal and not the one who scammed you. You will definitely be souring the relationship with Paypal but the choice is yours.

Paypal is just a middleman, the deal is between you and the seller.

I didnt use a CC, but Paypal. Also, the seller had mentioned on his website that if the script doesnt work, he'll install it for me within 24 hours.

Well I don't think so that you will get money back after PayPal denied it. You may try to contact seller once agian for this. Only he can do it.

You are just going to have to pretend like that $60 never existed, with all you've said...you have no chance of getting any of it back unless this fellow decides to turn into a nice guy...which I doubt

Well, you've got to consider the $60 as if it were paid to learn a lesson. Be glad that was all that cost you others certainly lost considerably more than that while gaining online sales experience. If money was debited from your Paypal account balance then there's no way you could initiate a CC chargeback.

Actually the thing is that you got the script so you are not scammed especially if they have an online demo with the same script. I buy scripts all the time and at most times, I buy them as-is. The modification that is made, I made them at my own time.

I don't think that you have been scammed unless the person did not deliver the script or did not deliver them as-is what was demo on their site.

if you chargeback certain amount of times each year paypal will lock you out. For each chargeback, mastercard and visa get annoyed @ them because they need to spend time investigating, so in turn, paypal gets mad at you.

If you believe you have a case, go ahead. But being a seller of a few products, you should probably have the sellers paypal email, which means that is probably their real business email account. Try mailing them and see whats wrong. They might be able to help ou or have a vlid explanation

Yup, if know the URL of the seller's site, you can do a WhoIs and get the registrant details. Then again if the person plans to cheat, he may use fake details or use a Whois Privacy thingy.

I'm agree with bccruzer. You should check your PayPal transaction history (to find out his current PayPal ID) and send that guy an email if you need any support.
