What are the pros and cons of owning a .biz domain when all other tld for the name is already registered?
.biz is horrible. Avoid at all costs. I would rather change the name of my site or use a hyphenated name than use a .biz
What are some of the words you are looking for in the domain name? A .com is the only way to go. A .biz is confusing to consumers; many times they will add the .com on the very end. Have you tried deleteddomains.com? They may have a good name coming up for deletion. I have an account and would be happy to kick around some combinations. Each day thousands of domains are deleted and are made available for purchase. Many times people may forget to renew the domain or they simply go out of business; the domains are then deleted from the current owner and allowed to be purchased again. This can be a very good way to get the right domain name by using the deleted domains data base to search for certain keywords important for your business. A name that you didn’t even think of may show up as deleted and be the one name that will work. I own several domains and most were from deletions.
i bet if it were sex.biz you guys would buy? .biz is not that bad. When the two main ext. com and net are taken i think it is the best choice.
There are many good names free with .biz On the other hand the .com is the standard If you can develop the .biz to a popular site go for it but as people said you will give some traffic to the .com version of your name
Could anyone explain what so bad about a .biz extention in SEO POV? i've been SEOing halik.biz for awhile now and encountered no problems ..
not necessarily, only is about your strategy developing and marketing your site regardless the extension You can own the dot com and worth nothing if the biz has best content, traffic and ranking.
I like the .biz for separation from the rest of your business. But I think it's strongest if used in combination with your .com brand so sellingmywidgets.biz for widgets.com would be a good marketing ploy, or widgets.biz for the resellers to log into while the main consumer business is driven by the .com but ya... on it's own? More of a defensive play or part of a link farm.. but not as your lead in brand.
I recently noticed that an email account I have that uses Spam Assassin, adds spam points for any email coming from a .biz domain. I'm pretty sure it was just the default settings on SA.
