Hi, This is a long story but I'll try and sum it up. Basically about 6 weeks ago I bought on ebay a affliate website that was promoted via adwords and was meant to be making a profit of £200 a month. I paid good money for it after sell proofed returns etc and he was a high rated seller. He told me it came with traffic etc. But after he sold it it didn't but after much hassling he sent me the keywords through. Now most of these keywords are costing me £25p-50p per click on adwords to be on the first page. My commissions from sales average £50p per sale. I told him I can't see how I can make any return. I have tried it for the last month but seemed to be paying out about £50 a week to get back £2 a week. I'm pretty new at adwords so am I missing something here or have I been scammed as I suspect?
Hi richt71 From the information you gave, it's hard to tell exactly what your situation is! I'm not sure of the monetary examples-[£25p-50p] Is that pounds? Ernie
Hi Ernie, Thanks for your reply. Sorry excuse me that is in pounds sterling. I guess it's roughly 50 cents to 1 dollar ppc. As I say my costs so far for adwords per week are $100 with a return of $4.
You would have to be exactly duplicating his own campaign. Having the keywords isn't enough. They would have to be dispersed through adgroups in the same manner, same bids, same ads, same everything. I'm not trying to be discouraging. If anything, I'm saying that you're not going to start a campaign at the same level he ended at. It does take a while to ramp up a campaign and start turning a profit.
Thanks Flip not discouraging I'm just lloking for guidance from guys on here that understand adwords much better than me!...that's what he said..however his website was only going just over 4 weeks (domain registered to me completing sale). I have asked for the information you suggested as I said wanted to duplicated eactly as you say but he has refused this. He then said he used a lady in the uk but refuses to give me her details as I've said I'll pay her. Is there a normal 'curve' after starting a new adwords campaign before the conversion rate increases/costs per click settle/or you know it's not working? I'm not trying to get instant money here and expected to spend a month of so of money on adwords while it settled but my spend appears to be going up on cost per click while revenue isn't going anywhere. I really can't afford to spend $800 a month with a return less than $10 a month. Again I appreciate all replies.
OK, it looks like you've got the right attitude by not expecting instant money. AdWords truly does reward the advertiser who not only plays by G's rules but who takes it to a higher level. Derive a good set of keywords from that website. Or maybe that site isn't as well-optimized as the guy said, who knows? Perhaps you can optimize it even better? Segment that site into different landing pages, each targeted to a different keyword. Then, in AdWords, set up an adgroup for each keyword and send ads to that particular keyword-targeted landing page.
Why Don't you post the URL so people can have a look and tell you if their might be a better way to convert the traffic?
yah I think it was a bad buy unless he gave you his exact ppc campaign. Adwords is really hard to start with especially with affliate maeketing!t
Thanks Flip. I have a keyword list/phrases of 171. These I got from the top websites selling the same goods. Unfortunately I believe only 20 are active as many were getting into $2+ ppc!
Ok...sorry didn't want to post it and upset anyone here being a newbie http://www.dvdterror.com Thanks for your input
Yes that's the conclusion I came to. He showed he was spending $140 to achieve the sales I stated. He presented this as a screen shot of his adsense account but blurred all major info out like keywords/phrases. Thanks anyway.
1. Remove the 'enter store' link. 2. Add content about terror movies. 3. Add Google Analytics Tracking Code 4. Add Webmaster Tools Verification Meta Tag. Much much more of course, but any AdWords campaign "alone" won't convert on your site as is.
1. Each movie becomes a landing page. Each landing page gets its own adgroup. For example "The Doll Master" is an adgroup. Each adgroup has its own tightly grouped set of keywords (the doll master, the doll master movie, the doll master dvd, etc.). 2. Like eniram says, you need to add content to these landing pages. I go into "View Source" on my browser and see little HTML on your pages. It's all iframes and images. You need good, solid HTML that mentions "The Doll Master" in a header and then in the body a few times, but make sure it's a good chunk of relevent, non-duplicate content. That's a start.
