J is useful for big web sites but wp is a solution for small web sites. your answer depents on what you expect from your web site
I would prefer Joomla because it is very versatile and more powerful. you can easily add/remove/edit/move the modules around. you can put ur adsense to a module and you can reuse it anytime. I may be a bit biased because I use joomla on my site. hdrphotos.net There's also a tutorial section there
Well, my sites are all joomla, and so far, had no security issues... Joomla itself is pretty tight. It's the 3rd party extensions that are vulnerable. The link below shows all the 3rd party extensions that are found vulnerable and patches to fix it. http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/board,346.0.html
Both are good depends really what you want to do with your site. If it's a simple tutorial then wordpress if it's a portal or such then joomla. Good luck
Perhaps you can use Joomla as a Tutorial base and use Wordpress for Site updates, additions, etc etc etc. There are a million reasons to show these 2 scripts are the best. I also follow the "Joomla + Wordpress" iDea.
Just revisited this post, that solution is great, thanks for this link. Working on one of my sites now with a joomla/wp integration, so very handy
Here's a great article that covers both Wordpress and Joomla... http://www.openjason.com/?p=23 Check it out...
I believe Joomla is really nice, might be better than Wordpress but I don't like it when I can't fully edit the codes of this err MosBody? (I already forgot the exact term for that) so I'm sticking with WP since I can basically do everything I want.
I got into WordPress CMS by clients asking can I have something that's easy to work? I showed them Joomla and they sat there wondering what was going on. The verdict was no. I had a blog and knew WP could create and manage pages, and the WP admin panel is very intuitive and easy. I made them this demo site which I now use to showcase the system to propspective clients : http://www.simplywordpresscms.com
I've been using Joomla for more than 3 years now and only last month I have tried WP. My observation is that, Joomla have more flexibility in terms of positioning your Modules or Component. As with WP, yes, there are quite good templates that provides more flexibility especially for beginners. But one thing that I like about WP is that, it's easy to explain to users (like my wife) how to use and post articles. And finally, it is very SE friendly as far as my experience is concern.
I researched both as well and found that Wordpress came more HIGHLY recommended not only for blogs, but for small & large businesses alike. In fact, most web designers I know (and I know a lot) have clients switching over from static sites to Wordpress because of it's ease of use AND it is MORE SEO FRIENDLY than Joomla. Anyone starting a business or that has a business, knows that a search engine friendly site is integral to the success of a business. If search engines can't find you, it doesn't matter what you use. Another key point to make is that Wordpress is no longer just for personal blogging. It is being used everyday for all types of commercial businesses as a full scale CMS site. Most companies are requesting customized wordpress sites that do not look like blogs. Just do a google search and look at a lot of the more recent themes available. Also, I read somewhere recently that changes to Joomla's GPL could affect it's future use with regards to developer contributions. I actually used both and prefer Wordpress for it's ease of use & SEO. I also liked Joomla but found it frustrating to try and manage my content. Just my 2 cents
I have used both heavily and probably will only use Joomla if I need a plugin Word Press does have. WordPress just has a better, more logical code base than Joomla, and with WordPress you get bbPress integration. Here is my personal site, in Joomla: http://www.trenttompkins.com/ Here is a site I just made that uses WordPress and bbPress (all but one page finished): http://www.osflv.com/ Joomla has more shit out of the box, but a lot of that shit is really useless. Joomla has more stupid stuff to it too, like the whole components / modules / mambots, and the sections / categories, and WordPress has a better editor. Joomla is a lot easier to use code in, WordPress butchers it. It's also hard to find templates for WordPress that aren't made for blogs, and a lot of extensions for wordpress only work with posts, which can screw you up if you are trying to make a site that uses only or predominantly pages. Also - Joomla has a better forum. The wordpress forum seems to have a ton of people asking questions and no one answering them, which I think has to do with wordpress being targeted more towards bloggers.
