What is a safe number to stay under when choosing a domain name? Under 15 characters? 20 characters? Thanks guys.

I think the smaller urls are better for people to remember. The length of url for search engines does not seem to have any effect.

Look at forums alot have post listed in google and they are very long.

In my experience/knowledge, domain length doesn't matter from an SEO standpoint.

As far as SEO doesn´t matter at all.

But yes, the smaller the better for people to remember.

But people will remember the service you offer more than your domain name.

Yep, I think you can get a long one top listed but you have to work a little harder for it.

If you have a specific keyword/s in mind you can do some research on what types of domains the higher ranking websites are using. You might find some holes in the old SERP armour by using some different extensions (.biz or .info).

As mentioned shorter is better unless you are solely expecting SERP based traffic but you'd likely want something people can remember for return visits.

url lenght not really matter but it will if got some keywords in it. the longer url, the more difficult for visitor to remember and they will not bother to remember it. so keep it short is better.
