There has been a recent surge in email spam containing the threat known as Storm Trojan Worm (Trojan.Peacomm) which is quickly becoming the largest threat of 2007. Severity: High Risk When the Trojan Storm executable file is downloaded, the code installs a rootkit that disguises the malicious program. From there, the machine is remotely hijacked by a type of botnet, peer-to-peer network, only to be exploited later to steal personal data or to use the computer to post spam.
freak nasty. how does one watch for it?? I mean if it's in an email can you do anything about it? http://www.computerworld.com/action...ArticleBasic&articleId=9011146&intsrc=hm_list
crap, i am reknown for getting viruses, my dad gets cut, and i have to keep reformatting the computer, because the viruses screw up our protection
I have a yahoo account isn't it if your e-mail has virus in it Yahoo will warn you? I opened one e-mail and a yahoo message warned me that the file contains a virus. I am not really that techy person.
thanks for letting us know. That's quite scary. Actually im more afraid of my web server being infected with a virus or my site being hacked. That'll really freak me out!
one would think...but unfortunately many do not (think) I received a flurry of exe files in emails a couple weeks ago during the whole Iraq & Britain thing...the attachment claimed "missiles fired from X to Y....photos inside" or some bull crap
i have a question...if i do not download the messages using an email application and just use webmail...am i still at risk? also, i never download anything from senders who i do not know.
i already got a few torjons that norton deleted! i don't open emails that are unexpected, that minimises the risk of getting a virus! by the way, smantha, your previous avatar was nice!!
most are low to medium risk, not high like this. think of a virus like a flu, the virus/flu has to be out their before they can make the fix/cure/antidote so a virus comes 1st, the fix comes after lots of people have been infected and some have reported the virus to the anti virus companies, who then make a fix. always scan your emails yourself too. first off, you are a little better protected but read above reply to understand how a virus works and gets a fix. never download anything from anyone you dont know, and always distrust anything a friend sends you to download in an email, never open it without scanning it. why when it's a friend? simple a virus works and spreads from pc to pc by infecting 1 pc and finding everyone in that pc's email address book, it then send its self to everyone in your address book, as an email from you. so your friends think you have sent them an email and trust it then open it, and they open a virus from you, although you never sent it. so it is wrong to trust mail from people you know, as most virii spread via people you have on your friends list. ty sweetie, i think 3 years of it on DP is long enough so i changed it as requested
thanks for the response but i only download files i am expecting to receive =] also, i have never had a virus infect my computer at all...everyone comes to me when they screw up their computer with viruses, adware, spyware and all that other crap
