    Hello all

    I'm kinda desperate here...

    I'm running a small proxy site www.hidensurfer.net

The thing is that sudently my traffic has been boosted... by a lot of Chinese and Asians. I believed it was a good thing; but the site is loading slow as hell and someone mentioned something about they been "bad traffic"

so if anyone can give me some advice what to do... I'll highly appreciate it.

well it could be with your hosting plan. they cant handle sudden traffic increase. where is your site hosted?

check with your host like ichigo said...

and you could simply ban the region from your site until you figure out what's going on...

I have it hosted in a vps. my vps plan has unmetered bandwidth so i don't think is related to that.

I submit a ticket and i'm waiting until they review my setup and say something.. but the site is running somehow slow. Honestly I'm clueless what is going on...

I bring the "bad traffic" theory because someone told me... I just wanna get rid of them.. if I can

Work with what you have.. find an advertising company looking to advertise to asians.. or chinese! There is potential, no need to see it as a "defect" ..

That is honestly what i was thinking... (by the way.. do you know any of?)

the funny stuff is the unmetered bandwidth thing... something is going on with the server... definetly

I checked on the logs and I have arround 3 gigs data transfer per day... I don't thing that should kill apache.

Did some googling and found this: http://www.linkunion.com/

But you would make more $$ if you were too approach companies (or companies would approach you) to advertise to this target audience.

dude you got a server problem. Check your logs, maybe you have a buggy script running. You would be surprised how many times it is a script gone wild, or just writing a ton of errors to the error logs can cause a lot of problems.

get off a vps, build a box, and ship it to rackspace

shift your hosting to some godaddy or yahoo, they will handle better traffic and sustain a lot of hits.
in case you don't want this traffic, you should block the ip range of these traffic! i don't think this is bad traffic, but then blocking the ip, will certainly help you to get rid of the traffic!

I think I find out what was happening.
I made a search at google... and basically they were hotlinking porn pics (check this out http://waikeung.org/php_wind/simple/index.php?t285205.html)
the traffic came from google groups and other asian forums.... so I just disable the hot linking... inmediatly I saw a better response.

I'm just gessing here... so i'll see if this keeps going ok
