Greetings What really pisses me off is the fact that some poor lunatic shoots around 30 people in school and this gets so much attention. When 140 people die in Iraq it is second news in the media. So if i go to america and kill 100 people in a school, then travel to china and kill 1.000 people with a bomb in a local school, i can bet on it that the school news in america is the primary news all around the world. I understand that this must be traumatic to sensitive americans, but it should not be featured everyday in the news as the headline. People hate americans for a reason! Think about it, it really pisses me off. I do feel for the victims there, specially the poor shooters parents and relatives if he had any. The fact is that he was sick and did not get treatment, this is not the kids fault who shot all those people, it's the fault of the system and weapon laws. If the poor kid would have had treatment this would have never happend. I doubt any americans can understand this post, cause they are just too full of them self. In scandinavia i can not recall any such case, where someone shot many people in school. We do have our own village idiots, but nothing compared to americans. Shame on you! Sir. Turhapuro
The worst school shooting in US history is a 1-time, tragic event. 140 people dying in Iraq happens a lot. Though still tragic, it often makes headlines unless some other terrible 1-timer comes onto the scene. In this case, I can understand the media's choice... but I usually disagree w/ them. American media is very influential and maybe even dominant in the world. The bomb in China would make the news as well, but in China that'd be the number 1 news item. See, it's all regional. What do you EXPECT?? "32 DEAD IN VIRGINIA, USA SHOOTING" on the headlines of your newspaper in Scandanavia?? WHY do you want carnage on your front page - AGAIN? And at this point you're generalizing FAR too broadly. People want to know what the VA shootings were and why they happened and the story behind it - can you blame them? Are you saying people hate Americans because we read the news?? The public doesn't control what the headlines are. So why would people hate "Americans" entirely? Ah, right Blame the government again. It's not the kid's fault - he was just a rampaging, cold-blooded murderer, I don't see why everyone is blaming him for the shootings? I mean, he only KILLED 32 PEOPLE. HOW can you think that?? And why do you blame this on WEAPON laws!? Have you NO sense of logic?? Are you looking at numbers or proportions? Because Scandanavia has a FRACTION the population of America. More people, more dumb people. Get the picture? I've been patient with your post until now. I want you to know in advance that what I'm typing on the computer is no accurate representation of the anger and distraught that fills me right now... YOU, sir, are a hypocritical liberal FREAK that has NO SENSE of ... ANYTHING .... K, I'm short on words right now because I'm very tired. However, you don't realize how idiotic your post reads right now. You're saying that if the "poor" kid had treatment, this never would have happened. It's possible. But who are you blaming here? The "system"!? HOW can you blame the system? It doesn't control him - it's a free country - and we need to be PROUD of that! It's his own problem that he didn't get treatment when he was becoming disturbed. And look - you CANNOT and have absolutely NO PROPER PLACE to say that Americans - and ONLY Americans (not Canadians... not Britons, not the Irish) - will not understand your post because we are "TOO FULL OF OURSELVES". WHAT RIGHT DO YOU HAVE TO MAKE THAT ACCUSATION? What AUTHORITY and CREDENTIALS do you have to be so critically negative to 300 million people!? YOU, idiot, are NOT the "only good, compassionate person" in the world. Others care - and it seems all you care about is hating Americans. Believe what you will. Wish what you want. Dream and hope that someday America will topple and that all 300 million Americans will die a slow painful death like I'm sure you think we probably deserve. But in the end, you'll have your reward... I can only imagine how idiotically pathetic you'll look then. So who's more "full of himself" here: the one who mourns and is hurt by the shootings, or the one who sits at home on his computer, wants carnage in his newspaper, and hates other countries and all its inhabitants and thinks he is so perfect?
What's the suicide rate in Scandinavia? Isn't it among the highest in the world? Are you not treating them because they are thoughtful enough to just kill themselves instead of also many other innocents?
Millions of babies have died as a result of Roe vs. Wade. They never get coverage in the media either. Hundreds of thousands slaughtered at the hands of islamists in Darfur, barely a mention. The world is a cruel place, despite progress towards civilization. The VT shooter is a victim only in the minds of the sick and twisted. Scandinavia is no where close in population or size of the US either. Life is all about avoiding death for as long as we can.
I completely agree that he should have gotten treatment. Virginia law and the authorities actually put him in protective custody, and a Virginia law allowed the judge to mandate treatment for the kid... but for some reason the judge chose not to exercise that option. I'm not sure how obvious the need for the therapy was made to the judge at that time, but if he had heard about nothing but the stalking, and the suicide attempt, that should have been enough. It's still the kid's fault. Everyone is responsible for their own actions. There can be mitigating factors. Blame can be and often is laid on others who did not act when the shooter is not available (thus the shooter, by committing suicide, inflicts further harm on the community), but the person who did the shooting is still the one at fault. And yes, I do think that the gun laws need to be adjusted. This kid went to several different classrooms, and shot the people in it. If even one of these classrooms had a responsible person who knew how to use a gun correctly, and did, there is the strong possibility that he would have been dead sooner, before some of his victims were killed. As for the international media... if you want to be angry at someone for giving deaths of young students in a classroom more weight in the media than the deaths of young soldiers in Iraq, I'd suggest you be angry at the media, not who they're talking about. Do I blame Britney Spears and whoever the heck that pregnant starlet was for the media focus on them? No. I blame the crappy news services, and my fellow Americans for lapping it up and not changing the channel every time that crap comes on.
QFT, these guys know going in they will meet no real resistance until the police show up--and that may take a while. BTW, the police appearently have no obligation to protect you: http://psacake.com/dial_911.asp
Unless you are in their custody, or they have otherwise removed your ability to protect yourself. They have no responsibility if the removal of protection was done by the legislature making schools 'gun free zones' though. Let me rephrase that. Most police view it as their duty to protect people. However, the courts have ruled that they have no legal or civil culpability if they do not manage to do so, or do not choose to respond to your request for protection.
