I don't see how they could even consider doing that... people could make a simple script to move the pointer 1 px back and forth about 80 billion times...
They might be doing it to stop bots.... Because bots don't count as a "mouseover" (do they?) And if the ad gets a click without any mouseover at all they know it is automated... (not sure how bots work, just an idea )
that's a good thought...i don't know how they work either...but it sounds pretty logical to me... if this is the reason then I've changed my stance...i'm all for it (though i don't think i actually had a stance to begin with)
Do you think it's an error? I've seem some ad loaded.. with the long mouse over url.. they shouldn't be visible..
seems like they are logging your pointer position to see if the user is even actually surfing the page?
to track mouse over /click why only to track impression / click Google want to know alll the little tiny thing ur doing
I'm not big on Orwellian conspiracies, but Google with their desktop, history and toolbar products have become disturbingly invasive. The sooner YPN gets their act together, the better.
if this true can google ban someone coz of invalid mouse over , i don't think google think that way may be they just wanna know how visitors react about the ads
it might also be a click fraud prevention , if an ads is clicked without a mouse over , it wont be counted . to avoid robots .
I don't think it increments on mouse-over but is a timer not a counter. It doesn't increment by 1. It could be used to discount multiple clicks in the same session or catch bots. edit: I changed my mind. If I madly swing the mouse over the ads multiple times then the counter goes up faster.
it seems to be a counter of how long the mouse is over the ad. So they are tracking if people are actually looking at the ad or not before clicking. (human behavour is to put the mouse on what your reading). Pierce
