I think that asking new members, or even old members, to read Site Suggestions and Feedback is simply too much to ask, but that is where the "rules" are posted. I was a member for weeks before I even bothered to look...though I did look for an announcements section so I could see if there was anything important to read. I also read the FAQ, especially the rules & guidelines sections, as I really dislike breaking the rules. But now that I know I can read them in two places, I find there are two different sets of rules.... In the Faq/Rules link in the navbar it has the following list of rules: In the infraction sticky (which is another misleading point, I originally thought it explained the infraction system, but it expands the rules). And I see people posting that they got infractions time & time again about things listed in the infractions thread, but not listed in the official rules. I think this is an issue which should be addressed. *shrug*
Did you read it? What more needs to be explained? As far as getting infractions for things not in the rules, it's usually just common sense stuff. And an infraction is a way of telling the person that he's doing something wrong.
Yes, I read it. nothing, it's perfectly clear. The only problem is it's not in a very good place, which makes the version in a good place a bit misleading. I'm not asking for clarification, I'm not asking for a rules change, I'm just asking for rules consistency. As it stands now there are two versions, one listed in the navbar and kindly labeled RULES and the other listed as a suggestion.
Read those two sections (FAQ/Rules and the Stickies). Those two sections does not contradict each other but rather one elaborates the other. And I see nothing wrong with that. It's your responsibility to know the rules. So read, read and read! And this one is just bull.... Again, it's your responsibility to know the rules. --Joe
Perhaps a good idea would be to link to the stickies in the FAQ for further information/more detail? Lisa
Am I the only one that can see that there are differences in the two sets of rules I quoted? According to the FAQ I can swear & curse all I want to. In the Infraction thread I can post news threads anyplace I want (as long as they are topical). Common sense aside, there are TWO versions of the rules, and some of the points mentions in one are not mentioned in the other. Secondly, the Infraction thread, from outside appearances does NOT look like a rules thread. If I read the FAQ and thought I was good, there would be a good chance I'd never bother reading the infraction thread as it would not apply to me as I've never gotten an infraction. So that is another point of being misleading... I guess it does not matter though, I've read them both and will assume that all apply...however, having two sets that do not match, in a way, will make the job of moderation harder. *shrug* I'm really sorry you can not see it though...
So, it's common sense to check the feedback board for the rules of the site, in a thread not specifically about the rules ...when there is a FAQ/Rules link in the Navbar. It's common sense to assume there are two sets of rules? That must explain why there are so many threads in this forum asking why people are getting infractions. As a moderator you should likely know there is not enough common sense around. This suggestion was to help make DP a better place...
If you can not see there are differences... Mind pointing out where it says I can't be vulgar in both sets? Mind pointing out where it says I should not be posting news stories in both sets? When I see people posting news stories and links to their blogs, and then I see a series of "thanks" or "PM me" posts I'm to assume these things are against the guidelines of the site. No, that's not common sense in the slightest... I'm sorry.
Well fuck, I guess I was mistaken. What is the infraction thread for then, and why is it saying I can get one for swearing, when that is clearly CLEARLY not within the RULES of the site! I'll just drop the issue... My next thread will be why the infraction thread has nothing to do with the infraction FAQ entries
i still don't get your reasoning. it wasn't stated in the FAQ, which is why it is stated in the Infractions thread. that's what the Infraction thread is for. now if the FAQ says "you won't get an infraction for swearing", and the Infractions thread says "you WILL get one for swearing", then you have a point. but since that's not the case, i don't see your reasoning.
Please.... Qryztufre... Please.... If you have a spare dollar, go help your self and buy common sense. We are not toddlers here. We are expected to understand these rules. Words need not be exact. Or are you in doubt about your IQ? lol... --Joe
I understand the rules, that is not the point, the point is there are two sets...is that so hard to grasp? The point is, once again, there ARE two sets, and the two sets do not match. Further more, one of the sets of rules are listed under a thread not specifically about the rules, and in a forum many members may have not read. If anyone reads the rules and does not grasp their meaning, then there is likely a problem with that person, but to understand them one needs to read them...and seemingly people are missing one of the two sets, if not both... I used the F word on general chats... And infraction?!? Infraction for bumping thread? Why was "What The F@#$ Happened?" moved?? So now a mod can make an infraction? Why was this thread closed? my thread moved Can someone review this infraction why is my thread deleted ? I got 2 infractions in 2 days... So while I may understand them, and while you may understand them, and while it all may be common sense, there are still people that are missing something.
