I did a search for the phrase hypnosis information and saw a brief definition from wikipedia just above the results. Same for the phrase SEO information. Has anyone else noticed this? If it is only showing info like that from Wikipedia you may as well rename wikipedia "googlepedia" or something...
well, i did some more checks, its appearing for karate information and kung fu information, but the kung fu and SEO entries weren't very relevant... [edit]seems that if you slap "information" onto a lot of words it shows a piece from wikipedia. aarrrg.
these days SE's throws much more traffic to wiki ... for most of informative KW wiki is ranked Number one. Trustable site + less work for SERPS More work for Webmasters and SEO's
What does it matter if it show's a quick definition from wikipedia? It's a great informational site and deserves as much traffic as it can get.
The problem is that Wikipedia is taking over the serps, often with crap http://www.webmasterworld.com/google/3040496.htm a guy complains about it
Another Wikipedia's annoyance... its crappy background, a large bmp file that eats lots of system resources and causes system crashes regardless OS or hardware you are using to surf
Of course you do, you're probably losing money because of it, but at the same time the rest of the internet finds it useful. There's not much that can be done about that. Pick your battles people.
I will have to agree on that. There are many websites that should be considered authority on the subjects that they are covering. It's not the case here, I see wikipedia's poorly researched pages getting top positions in SERPS whereas those more-to-the-point website pages are at number 2 or three position.
"information" and "info" are like Google search commands. If you search for "keyword + information" or "keyword + info", the first result will be from Wiki, if that keyword exists in the encyclopedia.
http://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&q=pool+information I don't think so, Wiki is no where to be seen in these results.
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=swimming+pool Now? I don't think I'll be looking for a movie or an article explaining what a swimming pool is, when I search at google.
That's because there's no article on "Pool" --> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pool Try searching "swimming pool info", "reflecting pool info" etc...
I don't see info or information in the query, which is what I was responding to. That aside, did you look at the article? It deserves the high ranking. Ah, my bad. Still though, internet users like Wikipedia and it does offer good information. I think it deserves its place.
my site name has no meaning in wikipedia... if i put my site name, definitely it will say there is no meaning of this words...
