I am creating a site which will be a resource to raise money for charity, so I am thinking about using a .org or .org.uk domain instead of a .co.uk to emphasise the charity stance. I know that to do well in a UK search, it is best to have a .co.uk domain and I would choose this over a .com (although I would register the .com as well), but I'm wondering if having a .org.uk name would do as well as a .co.uk and if .org will suffer because it is not UK specific? Anyone got any ideas?
i know google care if a site is .org or .org.uk and its an non-profit organization, ur page rank will grow faster. So go for .org or .org.uk! Good luck! Cris
What he said ...not only that if your site becomes very popular people will talk about and recommend it. Their natural tendency is to think of it as .com so if you have any other extension you will loose some traffic to your domain name but the .com version.
No, it doesn't matter if it is .com, .net, .org, or whatsoever. But .coms are good for traffic because .coms are known in web.
having the .org may also help you get listed in some dirs for free, as long as you are a non profit good luck
it does matter, For UK search, a .co.uk or .org.uk always out perform the .com, .net, .org assuming all have the same level of work done on them. just an observation, just an opinion
I would take all extensions. AS the main one I would choose .org. It is easier to remember than org.uk. Just opinion
no they wont care. same question like do they link .edu and .org more than others. the point is those domain are provide good content and get good traffic. so it really upto you point of view which one is better.
It doesn't matter if you use .com, .org.uk or . co.uk as search engine will crawl this the same from other site. As long as the site is properly optimized you can put this on top of SERP.
There is a Google filter that seeks out the extension at the end. Be country specific if you can. Org.uk are too dear Go for the co.uk it is cheaper and max reg is 2 yrs org does seem to suffer commercially
Buy .org, .com, .co.uk and .org.uk You're talking less that £40. Consider what lost visitors are worth compared with a little outlay. I'd have the site work for all the domains, but always display .org.uk to avoid potential duplicate content penalties. Having .org.uk may provide an indicator to users it's a charity, though in itself it carries no additional weight to my knowledge as there isn't any legal requirement / verification for organizations and charities on the domain as .org.uk can be registered by any one and has no official status. You need the .com for type in traffic on the domain name. The .org for people that can't quite remember .org.uk and .co.uk for people that don't get the .org right. The main thing is have the server resolve for all, and use the server conf to only serve one of the domain names regardless of what gets indexed, typed in, or linked to. Also tell google via webmaster tools > Preferred domain which version to display (www.domain or just .domain). Not that I'm aware of, though .gov and .edu do.
google doesn't really care whether you use .org or other domain extension... 'coz Google is after the proper optimization of your site with regards to your quality backlinks.... It is a factor that affect the SERP of a site. and .com is the most popular across the web....
Don't think google would care that, But for non-commercial site would use org. Dmoz.com and Dmoz.org are the same site
