I was reading a release about the VT shootings recently and I was noticing a lot of parallels between the two. Eric Harris had written a number of violent short stories for his English class in the months leading up to the shooting at Columbine. Seung-Hui Cho (Cho Seung-Hui? Seen it both ways..) seems to have written violent stories as well. The basement tapes often have Eric and Dylan justifying their actions with 'this is for all the shit you've given us for the past four years'...'you made us do this'. Cho seems to have said the same thing. Eric Harris had been taking Fluvoxamine up until Columbine, and was found with therapeutic traces of it in his blood after committing suicide. Eric and Dylan both also committed suicide with shots to the head. On the other hand, we have to remember that a lot of information release by the media shortly after Columbine was very inaccurate - so take everything the news tells us about VT with a grain of salt. Thoughts? EDIT: Forgot to add source url: http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=3048108&page=1
There are some parallels, but most of those are textbook warning signs. Then again, there are plenty of kids who fit the warning signs and won't ever do anything. It's just a sad situation. Kids snap because they can't deal with it, and a bunch of innocent people get caught up in it.
If the teachers at these schools had guns, the problem would have been solved sooner, and less people would have died.
Someone will always have guns though, you can't stop it. Getting a gun illegaly is like buying candy at the corner store, it's not very hard to do. So why take guns away from the good guys knowing the bad guys will have them? That doesn't make sense.
There is one, the most scary thing - no one can controll someones hidden madness... There is no way to controll everyone (and this would be nothing good for the society). Truly - I don't have any clue for situations like this
Guns don't kill people ... crazy people kill people. Are we going to ban airplanes to prevent another 911 ?
