The article is here. From the article: Surprisingly I have seen nothing except this article on this as of yet, I would have thought this would be big news. I can't believe no one has caught it yet. It will be very interesting to see how this one plays out. -Michael
It is a ridiculous and misleading article. We are all aware that google purchased Doubleclick some days ago. We can also speculate as the the strategic reasons that google purchased the firm. A firm like DoubleClick would be expected to have a SEO division, but we can safely assume that google did not buy it to acquire that division. In fact I would suggest that the people in that division had better start multiskilling or find new jobs - they won't be needed at google. This is a complete non-story by an article writer putting flawed logic to the situation and trying to get a scoop. Notting
There is nothing ridiculous or misleading about the article in the slightest. Google purchased DoubleClick, which is an ad agency. I'm guessing that 99.9%+ ad agencies do not also own an SEO company under their umbrella. We're not talking about a group of guys in their own cubicles off to the corner in the main office, we're talking about an entire company that they happen to own. As of right now, Google owns a company that has this on their website: In case you missed the implications of that, Google now owns a company offering services designed to help you increase your rankings in Google and other search engines. Furthermore, Google has stated they have no plans to dispose of this company. Now, at the moment, yes, it is just an interesting footnote. Right now they don't rank at all for [seo] or [search engine optimization]. They do rank highly on both Google and Yahoo for [Natural Search Optimization]. I'm guessing that the other term becomes the new buzzword, and would be worth watching if they climb for either of the first two phrases. -Michael
Your title is a bit misleading man, Google didn't buy them they just came as a bonus as part of the deal. Its not like Google bought Doubleclick because they wanted their SEO division
Actually, if you wanna put a huge tinfoil hat on, you could speculate that owning an SEO firm that has clients that large would give Google insider information on how the big guys were spamming and getting away with it. Btw, did you guys know that those clients used link exchanges and purchased text link ads...? -Michael

I sure hope you know how to parse the referrer when they get to you, so you can customize what to display based on what they searched on. -Michael

Google bought them to reveal all SEO secrets. Cutt's and friends couldn't reach some tricky methods used by webmasters to fool their search engine. Lol
