Question about submitting to directories

This doesn't make sense to me. I have just submitted one of my sites to multiple free directories and now my site has fallen from the top of page 2 to the bottom of page 3 on google for one of my targeted keywords. I didn't think this would have anything to do with submitting to directories but this is what a friend told me. Does this make sense to anyone?
    thanks,
    Judy

It's likely that it's unrelated as you first suspected, can you confirm that the drop is due to those submissions? Are those listings indexed?

You should also consider that you're unaware of the changes associated with the sites above/below you. Can you confirm that the only changes that might have influenced those search results were the directory submissions?

Did you check across all data centers? If you're seeing differing results, it may be the dc you're being directed to.

This is common. Alot of times when I get new links the site will take a little drop in ranking, just give it a few days or so and you will either be higher than you were or go back to the original spot. Not sure why google does this, it does'nt happen all the time but I have been seeing more often lately.

I sure hope this is what it is as I have been on page 2 for quite some time and find it unlikely that so many sites below me suddenly made changes to get ranked higher. I am anxious to see what happens.

My understanding is that Google has been experimenting with its algo during last few weeks as I see one of my 3 years site dropping around 25 places a day and the next day gaining 20 places from original position. ( figures are approx). This has been happenning all the time.

Just cool now -till the dust settles. Never worry.:)

this has nothing to do with you submitting your site to directories.

I don't think your drop in rankings was caused by submitting to free directories. Dropping from page 2 to page 3 is normal. Ranking in google SERPs changes every day!

But you shall put the most important keywords as the anchor text when you are submitting to directories.

I dont think it's related. most reasone surely because of Google itself. My site gone up in ranking lately and hopefully it will not drop down XD

wait a few days, it surely isn't from directory submission, as more links to your site never hurt the ratings. That's not how google acts
