    LayeredTech is good but if you are new i suggest you to purchase via reseller of LayeredTech such as server4sale, Servstra etc..

    Managed = the provider installs the OS & control panel of choice for you & configures it optimally. The provider will look after the server for you, install patches every week, assist you with any server issues (support) you may have etc etc. The provider should also ideally harden the server at the time of setup.

    (Note that degrees of managed vary from provider to provider and many providers clearly specify a set amount of "remote hands" time, and a set amount of server issue troubleshooting time beyond which it's on the clock.)

    Unmanaged= Provider installs the OS, control panel if requested, and you're on your own. You have to harden your own server.

    I don't have any personal experience with layeredtech. They are an unmanaged provider afaik. Search webhostingtalk.com & you'll see recent reviews about them, the last time I searched they were not great.

    thanks guys for replies...

    i wont name my current one.. but lot of downtime and buggy support is the problem.

    go daddy is cool.. only that they dont offer quick support. I want a company which can answer and sort out my problem in quick and timely manner.. i cant wait 12 or 24 hrs for my mail to be answered. (actually, none of us can)

    and yes, i'm looking for managed one. :)

    @Saad:
    server4sale looks nice... how was your experience with support? you said quick.. but was it good enough?
    $109 plan looks good to me... do you think Intel P4 2.8 GHz & 2 GB RAM woud suffice for a few of my intermediate traffic proxies?

    any more suggestions.. anybody? :)

    Yeah, it's 129$..It's awesome server.I am running high traffic proxies on it and it's working fine.If you want cpanel/whm then order with Cent OS 4.x and i dont think you need private switch.

    Servstra sucks. They don't even refund me, after they not able to resolve my problem. Poor servstra.

    a7a7, try to email server4sale first.
    check how long they'll respond to you.

    servstra took ages to reply to my mail, and simply close the ticket.
    WTH!
