Do you report pirated software?

I noticed another topic about pirated software (do you use it)...and it made me think of this...

Whenever I see pirated software...and I know it's pirated...i'm one of those people who will find out where to go to report it...and i'll usually drop anything i'm doing to to that...

and if I get a client that turns out to be a pirateer...i actually sometimes i might be a little too tough...

i guess i just hate people stealing my stuff so much that i've come to be a very strong supporter of killing the pirates...and i used to actually be one of them a long time ago...

what do you think?, or what do you do?...can some things be too harsh?

Because most of these companies make millions and billions of dollars.. I don't see that they lose that much $$$ so no I do not report pirated software, I rarely come across them anyways..

interesting point of view...though the amount of money the company makes has never once crossed my mind...it's more about intellectual property rights to me

I got a question --- " Do you own any licenced software? " and when I mean licenced -- that means on your name ... because I got so much "licenced" software but none on my name :D

Did I mentioned that "I love Microsoft"

    Cheers,

    Venetsian.

that reminds me of a video on here not too long ago...a guy trying to turn himself in for having a pirated copy of MS Office.

None of the numbers he called, including like the center for pirated SW or something would help him out...all a big joke really.

and no, apparently I don't have a point!

what do you mean by 'on your name'?...like have i made any software that I license?...in that case no...but I am a graphics designer and web/style designer...so i do a lot of intellectual work..

if that's not what you meant....care to expound a little?

No man .. when you buy software they issue licence for you .. ie. your name, company and sn/key ... that's what I ment by "on your name" as you can be using somebody else's sn .. and that's piracy ..

    Cheers,

    Venetsian.

Well in that case it depends .. if the software is used for educational purposes... then I wouldn't have a huge problem with that. If someone is giving the softwares away to make money for themselves.. then there's a problem

i can sort of see where you are coming from...but in most cases...companies offer these programs for either free or cheap to educational sites :)...

To be honest, I also use and benefit with this licensed software so I have no plans to rat them. :D

I don't understand...if you use and benefit from the licensed software...why wouldn't you want to rat the ones that are using it unlicensed?

forget programs for a minute, people steal other's designs right on this forum!!

I know of 2 instances where designs were jacked and being resold right here...of course..."DP does not get involved in others disputes" ;)

I usually look for open source alternatives and then donate what im willing to pay to the creator of the program.

I own my copy of photoshop and premiere etc, but I would never go out of my way to report someone.

I like this phrase: "What goes around, comes around".

I don't feel it's my place to play the police man.

I'm not sure if the support is better with paid or not...i use both a lot of paid things and a lot of free ones...and in my experience with the ones I use (i don't just use any old free ones) the support is sometimes better than the paid ones...

but now i'm getting myself off topic...lol
