I totally agree with this. I do have to say, I hope squidoo gets more popularity, it's a great looking/functioning site and it deserves to be successful.
Getting ranked is relatively easy if the competition is below 10,000 in google. I've picked off a couple of easy keywords, built a lens and am now regularly receiving traffic from google. You can check them out here: www.squidoo.com/wall-mounted-fountains/ www.squidoo.com/tabletop-fountains/
Good job! What's the secret to getting google traffic - having a good intro paragraph, or can you rely on the URL?
I think one of the keys to using Squidoo is putting low competition keywords in the title. As to the power of Squidoo, some people are saying Squidoo is ranking higher than ezinearticles.com. Not sure if that's totally true, but I have seen some Squidoo lenses rank pretty high.
Over the past couple days, I focused all of my time on Squidoo and tried to learn more about it. I've created a few very content-rich pages and set them up accordingly. My biggest questions still are: 1) Amazon & ebay affiliate programs - how much do you really make from them? Is it equivalent to what you earn by signing up to their affiliate programs by yourself and on your own website? I can't find this info anywhere. 2) Are those affiliate programs the only way to make money? 3) Everyone will find this interesting: the top 100 earners: http://www.squidoo.com/browse/top_lenses/revenue Look at #1 on the list - of course, she is the #1 earner on Squidoo...the page seems to be filled with Linksynergy links and Amazon Affiliate box ads (which is not an option, so she must have inputted them manually?) How successful do you really think this process is? I'm thinking that this might be a great thing to do in the background, while I work on other website projects.
I was going to disagree with this, but you are right. Some things work well for some and not others and vice versa. But the thing I like about Squidoo is its simplicity. Which could mean that people are oblivious to all the ways it could work for them. Stop by my lenses that deal with Squidoo and how it works. I trust you're not the type of person to sign up and pay for every guru who comes along with a bright idea or an explanation on how to make something work, given your healthy dose of skepticism. www.squidoo.com/where is links to plenty of How To Squidoo lenses. All the information is free. Nothing pushes an e-course or e-book.
There's three ways to make money through Squidoo... a) Affiliate modules (Amazon, Ebay, and there's plenty of others). Revenue is split with Squidoo. But in the case of Amazon I think it works out 8.5% because they're possibly a premium associate (Don't quote me on that though ) So you get 4.25% on every sale (except for a couple of categories, like big ticket items, Amazon give a smaller percentage). Which is the same as if you had your own account. Check out www.squidoo.com/why and www.squidoo.com/module b) Adsense revenue. Again Squidoo's account. But they share with the co-op (the co-op being the Lensmasters). Check out www.squidoo.com/payrank for more info on that. c) Third party affiliate links. You can plug anything you want. Put in your own referral link. Check out www.squidoo.com/basichtml for how to add hyperlinks to the Text/Write modules (just in case you didn't know how).
I am using squidoo for most of my campaigns. Combine this with article marketing and you have got a winner. Amazing stuff. bye, faraz
Thanks for the feedback so far. Anyone know how many lenses a user can make at squidoo? Is there a limit?
Absolutely no limit. And you can have as many lensmaster accounts as you like. Though one may ask the benefit of that. For me it means I can use different lensmaster accounts to focus on different topics. I've pretty much got a lot lumped into my main account but I do have others that specialise in other areas of interest... http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/N376 http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/rebelpilot http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/firebrand
Reprobate: thanks for those links.. any tips on getting more hits to lenses? I have no time whatsoever to "make online friends" (that goes for squidoo and all of the other social bookmarking ones). Can you simply rely on good keyword choices and google? Is there any tip to getting more hits from Squidoo members, beyond having to join groups and do it the tedious way? I've noticed that Squidoo is PR7, I'd imagine the potential is definitely there.
Yes, squidoo really an "in things" now. I just created my len last night, still study how to maximise it. Another way to drive traffic is to use Digg, install the digg button in your blog will help ppl to digg u when they like your post.
If your content is original then you'll have no problems with being indexed by the likes of Google (and others). I have some lenses featured on the first page of Google results for some pretty good keywords. Submitting your lenses to complementary Squidoo Groups is good. Don't do it straight away, wait until you've got a whole bunch and then spend an hour or two getting them all tidied away. I've got plenty of ideas for other ways to bring in traffic outside of Squidoo, actually it's 7 years in the making. I've drafted an outline, and it looks to be quite a read. It's on my To Do list. Not sure how long it will take to get down to it, but when it's up (I'll be publishing it at Squidoo) then you'll hear about it in this thread If you do manage to find the time to register at a few social bookmarking sites then stop by www.squidoo.com/socialbookmarkingsites for links that number somewhere up in the "far too many to sign up to all of them" range
