I personally think the best way to have a good adsense income is via a niche website cater for niche market segment.

Go where the traffic is - that is a pretty much on the money.

Of course this rule should be applied within reason - I mean just because there is lots of people search for a topic doesn't mean you should target the same industry - because sometime the industry is SUPER competitive. Same goes for returns - if there returns look great so flood there is again loads of competition.

That said I'm not in the industry I'm in because I am following the traffic or money - I'm in it for no other reason that it is what I know (when I started the sites I would have considered myself to be quite an expert on the topic) and because I knew a lot AND knew a lot of people in the industry I was able to create a reasonable site with good quality content. Then over the years I have refined my skills, my content, my designs and with time and hard work I have managed to turn what I loved into something that now makes me a living. I mean so many people recommend that this is the way to go out there and I used to disregard the advice, but now that I look back that is exactly how it played out and all my sites that I pretty much was only making for the money didn't eventuate into anything significant.

So my advice to most people would be find an industry you are interested and well informed in that has a reasonable amount of traffic AND you think you can make a website better than the other sites that are currently out there. So don't worry about what other people are making money from or their industry or URLs - that's not what is important. Finding out what topic you can provide good value information in is what is important.

If you are just making the sites to cash in chances are you probably aren't going to make a whole lot - unless you are a super savvy internet marketer - and let's face it if you are spending loads of time on DP and don't know a large range of internet marketing techniques inside out and have been doing this for 24 months+ chances are you are not "savvy" enough to make really good money by creating sites purely with the intention of making money. If this is you - sorry to burst your bubble - you have to give something to get something.

It is as long as you can provide best value content in that niche - if you can't do that then you'd need to be targeting super small niches.

Agree with you 100%, focusing on something and sticking with it, gets you the best target market and you won't have to beat some massive competitors in most cases.

I don't think it is ever too late to get into the game - I mean new business start every day, and business itself has been going on for thousands of years, modern business has been going on for a couple hundred or since the industrial revolution, online business has been going on for maybe a decade - so you're not exactly late to the game. If there is such a thing as "being late" in what is such a dynamic market anyway.

as someone mentioned it is a long post, but it is very well written, which would explain why your sites are showing profit.

There is a lot of useful information in your post. I just started with adsense or really anything like this so it is rreassuring to here someone doing well.

I have one site that on it's own has made it to a pr4, http://dunriteprinting.com it is the store for my screen printing company, and I have been trying to think about how I could use that site to promote my other sites, but now, I am thinking I need to change my focus and work on that site, since it is something I know and love to do.

thanks again for the great thread

Very Informative. Taking advantage of social sites like digg, netscape is also important in getting your site noticed.

I definitely agree, though I personally haven't really ventured much into the social sites I have read up on a lot of them and can definitely see the both short and long term gains that can be made from being featured on them.

Solid post, thanks Burta. I agree with you though, quality over quantity. I still don't think I'm ready to drop down to part-time university student though, kudos to you for being able to do that.

I know it's not for everyone - but doing anything in life half assed only gets you half assed results.

I'm glad I started reading this thread some time ago, it did get me back into my website. I'm now getting 2-3 visitors a day!!! :D:eek: he he - it's a start though, and I am patient. Funny thing is that most of them have come in on searches from google which included typos lol - at least I can now clean up my articles a bit......
