I only have one word to say. Why? However, I will expand: This is....kind of.....well TOTALLY UNNECESSARY. I understand a website raising money for charity, but not just to have pictures of yourself on. Is there any point whatsoever? Its also kinda perverted if you go and look at all these personal family albums. Or is it just me?
I agree... I think its odd to look at personal family albums... but the use of this is.. to make the site personal. more convincing to donate? maybe maybe not.
Alek's site is awesome and he's worked really hard to promote celiac research - the money is given direct, he doesn't act as middle man. Through his pranks and gimmicks he's developed media connections and a large number of supporters. That PR6 hasn't been easy. As for my family blog (PR4, 0 backlinks) - we don't update it often but it's a great way of distributing information without sending enormous emails full of photos to people and everyone gets the same info. I guess the key is what life phase you're in right now. Older people are interested in their own families. Young ones have a different focus, right EGS?
Dude that isn't just a family website, its more like a family blog, and you know good, unique, original, informative and interesting content always gets you lots of visitors and links. Plus the site is pretty old, from the era when people actually LINKED from their websites to websites they felt were good, although its still beneficial for SEO (Check out my Blog) IT

This site has been linked to from ALL over the web due to the Hulk pictures. I've seen it all over for years. That's why it has a high PR.
I think family website is a nice idea to help us keep in touch with other extended family members and friends. Today, everyone is spread out all over the world, with family website, we can keep our family activity updated and shared with family members and friends.
