NOTE: This is too important to leave relegated to the 'Entertainment' section! Has anyone caught this series? It's just beginning the American version, but the BBC version (better narration anyway) has been around for a while. The series is amazing, and has the potential to stir a part of the viewer that's been dormant for a while. I've found it to be very enlightening, and it's given me a whole new outlook on many of the things that I take for granted each day. I made a quick blog post about it here if anyone is interested: http://www.palsys.ca/science-nature/planet-earth-discovery-series/ Anyway, how many of you have seen even just one episode? It's pretty widely available online, so no excuses!
Never seen an episode before my excuse is that my biology lectures already fullfill my interest about the earth and its processes... lol Good enough?
It comes on in 1 hour for me. We tape each episode to DVD. It does have some interesting stuff but I think it's to boring for my tastes I probably need to be older to enjoy it more
Biology is my elective though... gosh knows why! lol of all the courses in the University... Maybe if it relates to evolutionary biology, I can use it as an exam review
Every episode makes at least some mention of and connection to evolutionary biology, so think of it was extra credit I'm surprised anyone could find it boring, no matter your age. I'm riveted for the full 58 minutes every episode, then I think about what I've seen for hours.
Us Canadians! Its in our blood to love trees, animals, lakes and such... Then I shall check it out, it'll be worth my time (beats reviewing notes! )
I saw one of these where a fungus grew out of a live ant and ripped it apart. Yuck, but still pretty cool.
it is fan-friggin'-tabulous! IMO there should be a copy in every home it's MUCH, MUCH more awe-inspiring on a plasma HDTV (which is where I caught my first couple episodes) they made my jaw drop - absolutely breath-taking now that I have the series it's just not the same on my old clunker but it's still beautiful GO BUY IT PEOPLE!!!! you won't be disappointed edited to add: did you catch the episode with the birds of paradise from papua new guinea? oh my! here's one of them... strange buggers, aren't they? he's trying to impress a girl... vanessa.
And they clean their logs before doing the 'dance'...it's insane how intuitive every creature is, down to the smallest insect! I'm watching on a 47" LCD in HD...very nice
I know! I thought it was so cute, him tidying up his place to make it perfect the cougars attacking the baby elephant though - that made my stomach turn a little nature is so neat though, even when it's brutal you had to mention the HD LCD didn't you? if you're trying to make me envious you've succeeded quite smashingly vanessa.
I'm addicted to it. I just have to be sure to cover my eyes when they show sea lions eating penguins and stuff.
Well I seen 2 or 3 show of this series and was excellent for me. Hat's of the Discovery team who did great job. This show comming on both channels of Discovery in India.
For anyone interested, this may wet your tastebuds. http://www.bbc.co.uk/nature/animals/planetearth/ Though, you cant actually beat a bit of Sir David Attenborough can you? The US version definitely cant beat him and Sir Patrick Moore...plus others
IMHO, no. Partly - 1) Sir David Attenborough is a bit of a legend, and has been at this kind of thing for donkey's years 2) I detest the word 'cooler' and 'cool'; so I disagree with you also for that reason.
I don't know who David Attenborough is beyond this series, but I can say that I far prefer his narration to Weaver's. I find a British accent easier to understand at times, and it is definitely a better fit for this type of series. David Suzuki does rock though
