Sooner or later Google will crackdown on link sales and even link exchange. Will they reward those who have useful content and few links? Cheers
I think - yes. They say that your page has to add some value itself. not only site made for links without any content. Anyway it's not so easy to find out which links were bought and which ones where not. Even paid links can be good, relevant and free links can be bad and worthless. Everything has to be done wisely.
They state that as a policy they frown upon link buying, but they have no way at all to police the matter. Everything will be status quo in the Google world for some time I think.
They can easily start by discounting links from sites that were setup for the purpose of buying/selling links, e.g. directories like BOTW. Google's not stupid you know.
If Google were to crack down on link exchanges, that would be extremely stupid. A high percentage of link exchanges are surely not for PR but for getting traffic too. If there were no link exchanges, basically, the web wouldn't be a web, people wouldn't get onto another site.
Of course they can't check it to be sure, but they can evaluate some conditions where are links placed. If links are completely irrelevant this could make some suspicions.
But they don't want crack this (I really doubt in this), I think they want to cut down as much as possible that links exchange methods which mess the results in their search engine. What could be wrong if two friends exachange links with their sites?
i dont think people can be rewarded for not buying links simply because it will certainly lead to people wrongly being rewarded for being smart about it. although i think sooner or later google will begin to demote sites that have a high % of links on irrelevant web sites.
Ok, maybe I made it wrong before - they don't reward those who don't buy, but they can penalize the ones which do it. I mean't the 'reward' as 'not beeing penalized'
Somewhere in the far east , a village is missing its idiot while you are hopping around DP forums Good you are not/can't be a DP mod Same for Dmoz,in the UK you should have the lowest IQ to get a job in McDonald. Are you still editing? Another random hug yours
What GRG said - they definitely won't be "rewarding" any sites because they don't buy links; they just won't penalise the sites that don't. The fundamentals of the search algorithms will remain pretty solid - that being you need inbound links to improve your positioning within the SERPs for competitive terms. Personally I think Matt's mission of removing all "paid links" is probably going to be a lost cause. I mean online marketing isn't going to stop over night and I think for the large part he is just blowing smoke up people's asses to scare them into stopping the practice, because I think Google are probably a long way off from completely eliminating the problem, and having listened to Adam Lasnik at a search conference recently I don't think Google is necessarily trying to eliminate all paid links - they are probably more leaning towards eliminating paid links that have the primary purpose of search engine manipulation, being links purchased for PR and with specific anchor text etc. I mean if you look at it from Google's perspective I think they will probably look into how are most of the search manipulating paid links are bought and positioned and look to diminish the value of such links and potential penalise the sites that are employing the technique from both ends. I mean the obvious thing that stands out to me is link spam where people sell links at the bottom of their pages. If I were Google that is the area I'd be going after you'd probably get 70% of the "paid links that have intent to manipulate SERPs" this way. I mean site owners need to keep a balance of keeping users happy and making a few dollars on the side. That is what was beautiful about selling text links at the bottom of sites - they were out of the way of users so they didn't really care and if you had high PR you really could make a tidy amount of money selling a few links, and the l I mean I obviously don't work at Google and I don't know if they are alreayd employing this but if they were savvy they'd just devalue links that appear close to the bottom of the page and especially site's displaying links that aren't in context with their sites, like a sports site promoting Viagra... I mean derr - "paid link". That's what I think Google will do, and if they could properly implement something like that it probably would tackle a good 70% of the problem in my opinion.
when to say a link is a paid link? how about respected paid directory like botw.org or iwebtool are they considered paid link? thanks..
That will be end of white hat SE, everybody will report everybody else saying that you have bought all the links which one can find using link:domain.com
no they wont. i vcould set up 1000 sites with different content and link them to your site. Other people linking to your site can not adversely affect you Notting
Really? Where to? They are already bogged down with reports for spamming - never mind link purchasing! Notting
They would like to be able to, But it's impossible for them to know what links have been purchased and which have been earned. As for recip links, It would make no sense for them to punnish two sites for linking to to each other.
