Dmoz is pretty much dead. I submitted my site to one of their directories and after a few months of waiting I decided, why not, and applied to become and editor there. After I got accepted I logged into the editor interface and there were sites in the queue for that category that had been waiting for over 6 years

Yes I did. It was waiting there amongst hundreds of other sites. I think the problem was actually that there was no editor for this particular section, rather than the editor just being lazy.

If I were you I would submit an editor application. It's not very selective at all and if you get selected you can approve your own site. Of course it depends on what category you apply for though.

I have done some editing, I got approved for some categories and not for others. I hear if you apply for a local (your city or county) category you can get in fairly easily. Once you are in and show some good work you can get other categories to edit.

In some ways it is dead in other ways (like higher ups critiquing your edits), it's alive. If you do get to be an editor plan on having to deal with some nit picking. I felt like I was the little Dutch boy plugging the wall with my finger and the dmoz leaders would walk by and critisize the way I held my pinkie finger.

A lot of the categories are very busy, and the editors are only volunteers.

If you really, really are desperate to get listed, then your best bet may be to try to become an editor yourself.

It didn't take long for my site to be listed on DMOZ years ago. It's been recently yanked since the site is no longer what it used to be. That didn't take long either.

It probably all just depends on what category you submit to.

DMOZ never really directly brought me traffic. But, when I mirrored it and put adsense on it, it directly made me over $1000. So, it does have some value.

For the original poster, did you submit to the correct category? Does that category have an editor, when you submitted did your site actually have content? (more questions?)

For those that said DMOZ is dead: My links to DMOZ still work perfectly, why is everyone saying it's dead?
