Ok, so I know I skipped out a big part of technology here lately. I kept up to date on the subject for a great amount of time, and then just lost interest. I am in the process of buying a laptop, and I noticed that frequencies have lowered, but the processors now sport the name "Duo Core". Is this essentially two processors in one? I searched the internet only to become more confused, and only more questions. What is the equivalent of a 2.0 Ghz duo processor in terms of other processors? I remember the frequency race was getting to almost 4 Ghz, and now I see this. Interestingly enough, I program processors in my Electronics class- and I haven't heard of such a change to "Duo Core" processors. Help?
It's not Dual Core (2 psihical cpus) It's Duo Core ! psihical CPU + one Virtual (in plain english your computer acts like it has 2 cpus and the amount of processe covered can be bigher) I have an HP Duo Core and i love it Olso i can tell you if a Duo Core at 2 ghz makes how much as a single cpu and at what GHZ But it's an like 1 year or so old tehnology
Interesting. I didn't quite understand what you said about the Duo core and how it relates to a single cpu, when concerning frequency / performance. Could you try to re-explain?
They are already out with Quad Core Processors, Also known as intel Dual Core Extreme Trust me they rip through many applications with speed It allows you to run many applications simultaneously, with no problem.. Windows vista also works with it well ..
I heard a new processor is going to be placed in macbooks too? Is this true and when? I'm contemplating about waiting for it.. or not I see they're out on the mac computers though..
Mac books...I considered those. Decided against it. I fear change. I have always been a Windows user, no reason to switch. They have some nice laptops though, can be expensive...
I personally would not go for a intel Dual Core Processor, especially in a laptop. Reason being is that they run hot and the battery will not be long lasting..Your best bet will to go with an AMD Processor AMD Athlon X2 will be the best choice, because they also have two cores and burn less heat.. Not to mention they are a bit cheaper
It's worth the investment.. don't spend money on a cheap laptop that you'll need to replace (trust me.. I experienced it ) Macpros can switch to vista..
Yup your right... I think they are already putting them in.. .. G processors are what made the mac books..
Battery life for the laptop is average, and I plan on purchasing a cooling board to sit the laptop on. I am going for a specific computer, so I'm not sure if a switch to AMD would work without changing my price range a good deal.
the dual core is a processor that dose resource sharing! it acts as two processors and devides the work in two threads, and works lot faster than the old pr4 processors! the core2duo is a nice one, and works pretty well! technology seems to change too fast, but am happy with my 5 years old computer, anyways, congrats for your new laptop, cheers!
Gaming / advanced apps for programming. I am using abs.com to get a laptop. The AMD counterpart is less powerful, and costs the same.
lol dude... intel dual core only goes up to 2.33 and AMD X2 go up to 3.0 ghz they are both 2 core and AMD cost 229$ and intel cost like $300
Look at these lol, tell me what you see.. tell me how fast each one is and how much each one cost..Rofl http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115013 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103733
WTF are you talking about man. It's Intel Core 2 Duo first of all. It has 2 physical processors and no virtual ones, lol. Now to explain to the poster: Core 2 Duo processors are based on Intel's Conroe technology(last of the Netburst era). This new technology has shorter pipes meaning lower frequencies but faster transfer rate. So to put it simple curently 2GHz is like 3.4GHz processors 1-2 years ago. Obviosly Intel is curently the better choice than AMD for now but this may change soon when AMD releases their new Barcelona processors. Curently the best processor for the money would be E6300 or you could wait few more weeks and buy the E6340.
