Google are hopeless. They can't make anything good for themselves so they buy others off. Search is the only service Google has good, everything else of theirs flopped (answers, videos, talk etc). So why is everyone madly in love with Google when the bottom line is they just brought another company. I'm sure Microsoft can offer triple that much if they wanted (they'll just get it from Bill Gate's saving :)).

How many threads are we going to create about this? There are three already nearly back to back. And it's on the front page of Digg.

They have money to buy these companies.. why would they spend years to develop a site when they could buy it?

By the sounds of it you like Microsoft. They must be hopeless too if they were going to buy doubleclick too. All major companies have their fair share of big buys, its part of business.

We have had a lot of questions about Google's announcement of our plans
to purchase Doubleclick. Our goal is, as always, to improve the
relevancy and efficiency of online advertising. This acquisition is a
big win for you, our publishers, as well as for advertisers and
Internet users. For those of you who are not familiar with the company,
here's some background. They have two flagship products: DoubleClick
for Advertisers allows advertisers and ad agencies to traffic, serve
and measure their online display campaigns; DoubleClick for Publishers
provides ad inventory management.Others of you are long time users of
DoubleClick -- for over ten years, they've been working with buyers and
sellers of Internet ads to help them plan, serve and measure their
Internet campaigns. Stay tuned to this blog as we will use it to
provide you with more information about our plans with DoubleClick,
including ways you as an AdSense publisher can benefit from
DoubleClick's strong advertiser and agency customer base. You can
continue to rely on the products and services from Google and
DoubleClick as you always have. For now, you can find out more in our
Official Google Blog and in our press release.Posted by Arlene Lee -

More than likely just gonna be 'Google Click', intergrated into Adsense/Adwords or remain the same, as YouTube did.

Yep. Years ago I read somewhere that MSFT had $28BLN of cash in the bank. Google isn't anywhere near that.

True, if Google buys every big site. Who is going to go against them?
