Yep. Trying to figure out if this is good for the industry or bad. I would have prefered it if Yahoo or Microsoft were able to complete on this pruchase. The lack of serious competition in our marketplace is a concern. BUT the fact is that Google just seem to trump the others every time...whether we like it or not they are the superior company...

That's true. Google will never be big enough to buy MSFT anyway.

Too bad! I wish microsoft would have made that deal. Google will become even more dominant in the advertising sector now.

Never is a bit of a bold statement, don't you think?

All it takes is for Vista to stay at its current pace, which is not very good, and Google to announce and invest in and build an OS, like rumours have been circulating for a year or so now.

A lot could happen in no time at all. Never say never.

Entering that industry will only make it more difficult for GOOG because of the antitrust laws.
They will never be able to afford it anyway even if they perform a max out secondary; MSFT's EV is nearly $300 billion.

I don't think that they are able to take over the market, msn and yahoo are just developing their ad market.

Google are hopeless. They can't make anything good for themselves so they buy others off. Search is the only service Google has good, everything else of theirs flopped (answers, videos, talk etc). So why is everyone madly in love with Google when the bottom line is they just brought another company. I'm sure Microsoft can offer triple that much if they wanted (they'll just get it from Bill Gate's saving ;)).

Yeah, they are really strong and going to be even stronger. I can't evaluate this particular step now, but this is similar strategy to Youtube case - they couldn't beat them so they just bought them. It seems that they can buy everyone - maybe some day they just buy M$ with all their products ;). That would be very funny :)

    Why just don't buy M$ then? :)
