In & out of SERP's

It's getting to be quite fustrating with websites going in and out of SERP's on Google like a yo-yo. Some of my new sites (2-4 months old) were high for specific keywords and phrases and now they just drop in and out occasionally. Some come back to the 50's then go to where they were originally but then some stay out at 100-300.

Is there any way to avoid this?

    This is called Sandbox effect..
You will find your site top within few days, then it disappears and then will come back again..

The sandbox is generally when you don't rank for the keyword atall...

    But this is different... ?

This may be also due to your competitors..

They come ahead due to recent SEO or
if the sites come back again from sandbox effect.

This is not called the sandbox effect.

I think it's an effect that deserves it's own name, since more people have been describing this. Let's call it the yoyo effect. I would hazard a guess that it is related to the sandbox in that it's due to lack of trust that google has in your site and due to the fact that google is constantly updating its index these days. Sometimes your site is just over the edge of 'trust', sometimes to some random reshuffle, you're under that line.

The only thing you can do is to make sure you don't do anything that google might think is shady, like link to untrustworthy websites. And build quality links.

Yep i think that's a good name as i'm seeing it so much lately.

The site i'm really worried about is a clients, it's in the viagra niche and is only about two months old but it's ranking in the 50's for the main keyword i am targeting. So no doubt there will be trust issues, but it does have some nice backlinks so far, and i'll continue to develop them. It's just my client is excited with it being so close to page 1, and then it drops in the 100's lol..

The Viagra niche... Golly. That sounds like a competitive niche, with probably some strong filters in place to keep out spam. In other words: a good candidate for the yoyo-effect. To have that yoyo-ing between top position and 100s is pretty good within 3 months. Explain that to your client.

Keeping the expectations of your customers realistic is part of doing good business. And anyone selling viagra should be aware of the amount of spam / competition around. It should be possible, if their head isn't too thick, to explain that the new kid on the block needs a bit of patience before becoming trusted.
