Hi, On of my site is http://www.journalhome.com/, we offer free blog hosting, (no adverts and so on). There is a paid option, but 99.9% of users go for the free version. I have had Adsense ads on the main pages for a very long time and I have been getting a low to medium returns from it. Most of the site income is from revenue sharing. I have now read that the ads on those pages are actually harmful as it give the impression that the blogs themselves are ad supported, (it is not the case, we don't place adverts on the user blogs). I am not talking about the individual user blogs, they can put ads if they want, I mean the main pages of the site itself. So what do you think? drop the adverts on the main pages? Do you think I have lost users _because_ of those ads? FFMG
Since they are not placed on the user's blog.. I don't think you lost users from this. If its on your main page: it doesn't really effect them, depends on how many ads you place.. 3 would be an excess on your main page
if the user can use it, why not the main site. just dont treat it as a main income and you will be fine. try to focus more on your service and try to attract more people to use your paid service. Focus on your product will be good for your site in long term.
