site disappearing from google ? WTF...

last week i was raving and extremely happy that my RPT site (see sig) came up in google on the first page....and it made it to position #9 looking for "reconditioned power tools"

From one day to the other...its gone....and i checked yesterday and i think i was on PAGE (!) 30....how is this even possible ?

AFAIK i didnt do any changes, i added some more categories but the entry point is still the same...i just resubmitted a new sitemap (1000 urls, not TOO big)..but i am kind o concerned.

How can i have such a great gogle result as a beginner (PR is still 3), MORE entries have been made in other search engines for better PR...and from one day to other my site is basically gone from google results ?

    i have an idea...working on it...INTERESTING...

Adding more categories to my site which did NOT contain "reconditioned" tools...so...googlebot walks all this pages...

I am excluding certain urls in my robots.txt now - i am sure thats what it is.

Which would be an interesting conclusion:

Look what your robots.txt actually allows and what not.....if you have a site selling "red ferraris"....and you decide to add blue ones too, and GB crawls 10000 pages of "blue ferraris".....well dont expect this being GOOD for google search results of "RED ferraris" ;)

AOM sites tend to vanish with time as they are full of dupe content and supplemental results

I know exactly what you are talking about. Basically once the indexed pages go over 30,000 Google starts freaking out.

I can't post live links here as I am a new user but here is an article that talks about it:

The biggest problem I have with AOM custom stores is that it still lists ALL the subcategories and a LOT of them are "We did not find any results.". And I have no way of controlling that. Ideally I'd like to manage my subset of categories but AOM has only one level of control.

i am back, i am back.

It might have to do that there WAS something going on with google, and MANY sites bouncing in the SERPS...now i am on position 7/8, page one again..and even surpassed one of my BIG competitors........i am so happy ;)

I resubmitted another sitemap and excluded a section which was not 100% related to the keyword.....and i optimized a bit with my META tags.

I also optimized my adsense placement a bit.

btw i am talking about my http://www.reconditioned-power-tools.com
    ;)

    Hope.... ;)

GeorgR, I've found that while my SERP results scatter around, and my traffic is low... being an Amazon affiliate ROCKS because the conversion is HIGH HIGH HIGH. everyone trusts amazon. Have you found that too?

Is your site fairly new? About 2 / 3 months old. Probably Google is doing another deep crawl of your site and is reorganizing the results.

#9 seems to be taken over by my site (for today).

Biggest surprise yet is of course #1, a site by one of DP member who develops his own script and used to post a lot here sometimes back.

well its about 6-7 months old. I am still not sure whether i should submit/delete my sitemap. I always make a sitemap with about 1500 URLS or so and submit it.

Yes..i see ALL but two of my pages are in supplemental....any ideas ?

well i have pretty "ok" seo since aom limits me a bit in that way. But i put a LOT effort in SEO, as far as i can. Eg. mod rewrite, meta tags, analyzing with web ceo and with various sites.

I now added more RSS feeds, so basically more content on each page in addition to the amazon products. Still hope that its just some google-weirdness going on.

    i make some interesting observations:

Right now i am on avg. search position 10 on google for "reconditioned power tools"- There is this INTERESTING button "query stats" on google webmaster tools, which shows you avg. position and what queries visitors bring to your site.

    Interestingly...for "refurbished power tools" i have rank #6 ;)

The interesting thing i noticed is, that i have 5 pages in google now which are NOT supplementa.

The old pages (in googles cache), before i changed URL names are still in google under "supplemental"....eg. all the sites where i had the original name "outlet" (the same as amazon has !).

All the "outlet" pages are supplemental !

But i changed that a while ago (renamed the "outlet" part in the url), one of my SEO tricks...i tried to differ as much as AoM allows from amazon and from other amazon stores.

Anyway...lets see how long i keep that position ;)

    its really KILLING my traffic.

For one/two days this Weekend i was on my normal position in google again, and SAT had the highest visitor count ever, 125 uniques on that day.

And..BOOM...i am back in the SERPS again.

Its like that for about two months now..i am bouncing back and forth from position 7/page 1 in google to somewhere way behind, often as far as page 30.

I really have no idea what to do and whats going on.
