http://www.houstongreatbooks.org I've created a proxy site that is disguised as a reading website. It is geared towards students. Though the site is very simple, I hope it will grow using viral marketing. It has been my experience that kids don't care much about web design. And for the record, I'm not against reading in any way. In fact, I support it.
Nice try http://houstongreatbooks.org/reading/reading.pl/010110A/http/www.google.com/ It says the word proxy , and school filters will block it.
hehe very funny, smart thinking I'd like to see how this goes. Because when people go to the site they will probably just exit because they see no proxy.
Interesting idea, I might steal this concept and make a proxy website, I'll see how long it goes for, until it gets blocked at my school
First of all, I would change the font type of your site to verdana.. and secondly, a new enter button graphic would look much better than just a photograph.
Good idea but if I didn't know it was a proxy I wouldn't have gotten past the landing page... It's a bit Plain Jane but I suppose kids won't care. The two different types of Google ads make it looks a little odd alignment-wise. EDIT: Just thoguht of something... Your site is aimed at school kids... the ads for me were for servers and learning how to read - school kids arn't going to bother clicking ads.... just a thought... Nice idea though.
Good idea. lol. Except I think you'll be banned by adsense for mistargetting the ads! just kidding. Use a javascript meta refresh, to refresh them to the correct site within 5 seconds or they may leave... Also it's a good way to get higher paying ads. Notice the ads.
I found your site yesterday and celebrated. Today, however, the filter identified the site as a proxy. Do you know what happened? What do you think clued the filter to block your site?
I have two things to say... The first being that I have seen this idea done numerous times before, so as far as originality it's not 100% unique. Second, and probably most important to you is that from my experience in a public education system, a site like this will grow like crazy through viral marketing and will remain unblocked for a large amount of time before being noticed. The problem is, however, that regardless of how well you hide it, the site will be noticed either by the use of a particular script, or just high volumes of requests to your particular page. Typically blocking software does not analyze a site based on appearance. It will look into the sites code for banned words (ie. proxy) and on a search of your source code for "proxy" i was able to locate two words. Might want to clear those out Other than that, looks nice Should be getting some crazy traffic in the next month or so! Feel free to submit your proxy page to my topsite at http://www.good-proxy.com if you want a little jump start in traffic
