I have absolutely no experience with web design, but I want to learn. I volunteered to create a website for an organization and they want me to use Dreamweaver. Is Dreamweaver a good choice for a clueless newbie?? Does anyone have some helpful tips for me?? Thanks.
I agree, frontpage would be friendlier environment. Maybe you would like to use some cms. They could greatly help you.
That's the thing. I don't really have a choice. They want me to use Dreamweaver. They already have ordered a copy.
You should start with dreamweaver right away, it will be strange to change later. Use one week to learn the basics of Dreamweaver then you are on your way. Be prepared to work hard for a week AND TAKE NOTES AS YOU GO!!!
Dreamweaver is really not more difficult to learn than FrontPage. This might be of help- http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/design.html
They are content management system, like joomla or word press. They are easy to install php scripts using myqsql databases.
Agree, well it's been more than 4 years since I last had Frontpage installed on my PC, and I can hardly remember my computer run without Dreamweaver in the processes list The reason why I suggested FP is because it's close to MS Word and easy to use, although the code it creates can be a nightmare.
Thanks for recommending that site Rob. It looks helpful. I googled for tutorial sites, but didn't know which ones to trust.
http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp And www.lynda.com These have some great tutorials, which should help you out
Dreamweaver is WAY better than Front Page will EVER be and I will tell you why: First of all FP is a Microsoft piece of software, and basically will create a site based on what it might look like in IE, and mainly IE, even the newer versions still look like crap in other platforms(like on a MAC) as well as other browsers (like in Opera, Netscape or others). Second FP is not really for beginners. Dreamweaver is a non-biased software and will create sites to look good in any browser and on any platform. These are only my opinions from being involved in web design for over 5 years. For a great resource, I would check out htmlgoodies.com - it is a great place to learn - and that is exactly what you need to do. If you like my post, please give me some rep when you can (I am not sure it is available yet as I just signed up on this forum) Best of luck, let me know if you need further help via PM!
Well, I'm glad to hear that most people agree that Dreamweaver is the best program for me to use. That was exactly the answer I was hoping for! Thanks to all who have replied... Green reps for all.
I agree, learning frontpage first is not the wise thing to do jump in with both feet and it'll be smooth sailing soon enough! here's another site with useful dreamweaver resources: Dreamweaver Resources vanessa.
Learn the basics with frontpage then go over to dreamweaver. And try read some tuts in the meen time !
As you can see, Dreamweaver gets a lot of respect. It's far from perfect, but it's pretty good. There's a learning curve; a lot of the time, you'll know what you want to do, but won't be sure where to find it, which button to click or menu to look in. But the more you use it, the easier it gets. It's not a bad way to learn. The code it writes isn't always the best, but between the split mode, the code and design views, you can get an idea what's possible in html, how you approach different problems, and create the foundation you'll need to work with any html related software.
