Writing e-books

I have decided to try to right an ebook to sell online. I have two questions. First, is it very profitable to write ebooks? And second, once I have written it, what is the best way to promote it? I also have no idea about writing a sales page. Can someone help me out? Thanks.

It's profitable if people want to buy what you're selling. :) I know that may not sound helpful, but it's the truth.

If the topic is one that people have shown they will spend money on, then yes, it is profitable.

If possible, I would like to try to do as much free advertising as possible. Then after I make a few sales, I would put part of that money back into the promotion of the ebook.

Ok, if you're going the free route, I'd surf around for some huge forums where you're able to post signature links to your e-book sales page.

Then you can contribute in them after you've created your product for the members of that forum, and folk will visit and if your product/copy is good enough some will buy.

I did this quite successfully not so long ago in the fitness industry.

Writing the sales page is a lot tougher but you can start learning here.

if your planning to write a "how to make money online" e book its probably not worth writing because there are thousands of these e books out there already.

if your writing any other type of e book then the best way to promote it for free is threw affiliates (you can recruit affiliates by submitting your affiliate program to affiliate directories and posting in affiliate forums)
    and article marketing.

after you get some money you should promote it threw adwords

What are some good affiliate directories I could submit my site to? I know clickbank is the big one, but they charge like 50 dollars to submit. Are there any other good ones?

clickbank isn't really a affiliate directory its more of a affiliate manager and payment processor in one place. as for affiliate directory's i don't have a up to date list so just search Google for affiliate directory's.

I disagree with not writing a how to make money book because there are so many out there. This is the exact reason why this is a great market to write someting in. Massive market means massive buyer base if you know how to get it done. Most of my personal subscribers buy no less than 14 of these types of ebooks each year because as most of us in the business know, they don't really contain anything useful most of the time so the buyer continues the quest for the "secret" to getting wealthy. I would however say that you should not write a how to make money ebook if you are broke :) and that applies for anything else you are not an expert in. Also depending on what the ebook is on, consider giving it away for free to anyone who will take it, have it packed with affiliate links to the products or services you suggest and make commissions off the back end.

Copywriting is an art in itself and people spend years getting better at it, so don't expect to be able to write a sales page that converts really well right off the bat. If you want to pay someone else to do it, it can range between a few hundred dollars and a few thousand dollars depending on how good he is.

As far as promoting it, affiliates are good, PPC is good if you know what you're doing, off-site blogs are good, forums are good...if you want you could even set up a site with a few keyword articles for the SEs and put your sales page on it.

You can try to start off here at DP. Invite a few senior members to write a review of your ebook before advertising :)

You could submit your ebook to PayDotCom.Com. They allow you to submit one eBook free and $29 (one-off) for 2 or more ebooks.

Good idea. You can use DP as your testing ground. A lot of helpful members here.
