someone made a sale with me using his credit card and i shipped him my package but apparently the credit card belongs to someone else from a different country.

I've shipped my package but i still have the money only found out when i phoned the owner of card didn't even know it was used.

would i be able to keep my money or am i liable to return the funds...

it is now up to the credit card owner to take legal action on who ever used there credit card you cannot be responsible for some one else's actions

If it has been less then 90 days they can cause a charge back on you. I had my credit card number stolen and I found out that if it was more than 90 days I was out of luck but anything under 90 days would be a charge back to the merchants. So if you past the 90 days, your most likely safe, if not they have that long to charge back on you.

    Ok Here is what happens:
(Based on my past merchant experiences)

The real owner of the card must instigate a dispute resolution with their bank.
The bank will then contact the merchant (you) with a letter asking for you to provide proof that the transaction took place. Usually I would send transaction slip with the signature on it and that would usually clinch it and the money would stay in my account. But in your case it sounds like it would be an e-transaction and therefore no signature would have taken place.

If and when the bank contacts you be as helpful as possible and get back to them ASAP. They can be *#&@# if they want to be.

If you know that the payment is fraud, you should return the money to the credit card owner. If he launches a chargeback against you, you will lose that money and at the same time, you would probably need to incur some chargeback fees.

Returning it now would keep you in good relations with all parties involved.

If you did your due diligence at the point of time when accepting the order and you can proof that you acted in good faith then provide the necessary proof.

I have the same question. Such mistake should have never gone through with proper verification.
