Uncommon extentions

    Hello,

As I was looking for a new domain to develop I realized that all of the common extentions for my five letter single keyword domain were taken. I was thinking of regging the keyword with one of the less common extentions but I wasn't sure if it was a good idea. So my question. Is it a good idea to reg a .cc, .cn or .ca in order to keep a short 1 word name? The word relates to pets if that helps at all.

I'd go for a longer, but memorable .com

Agree, unless you have a marketing play or your name sounds great with a non-common extension, a dot com is preferable or a top country code such as co.uk / org.uk

i think uncommon extensions are bad because people do not remember them they write com instead of them. So try to find .com extension or .net .org

Add something like "the" to your word and go for the .com. Will be easier to remember.

.cn & .ca are not uncommen extentions.

What is your reason for wanting to register other extentions, are you planning on targeting those markets, or preventing others from owning your name in that extention?

I just wanted to get a short, extremely relevent domain but all of the good ones for my niche very taken. I don't mean all of them but all the ones I thought of over the course of quite a while.

It is likely that the extension you want to use won't be appropriate for your site.
Try fiding some alternatives with .com or .net.

After the dot com, the most popular extension are NET, ORG, INFO, BIZ, WS, NAME, US, DE, IN, AT. EU, TV, CN, and CC, apart of the CO.UK so if you find available any of these it can work for you, but hardly those such as vg, bz, and so on

I agree with some of the posts above about going for a slightly longer but memorable .com domain. For example if your keyword is "pet" keep your keyword in the domain and make it "thepetspot" or something.

If you're just planning on targeting search engine traffic you can use one of the other extensions.
