Looks like some crafty work with photoshop or maybe a cheap print out some person made as a joke or to get attention for themselves that is just IMO though.

Wow, just wow. That's horrible. And I can confirm that it is a true news story as the Toronto Star is one of the biggest newspaper suppliers in Canada.

From the title I thought this would show some basketball coach, but not possibly a sofa. Glad I opened it. Crazy, Rob, crazy.

The star is a pretty reputable newspaper - can't see them reporting without checking the facts.

    Wow. A very surprising story.

It seems like the supplier from China is responsible from the article. The only possible thing (besides being clearly racist) is that perhaps there was some really bad translating done.

    Wow.

yeah... at first when i saw the pic it looked like they'd failed to translate black into spanish or a similar language... but the label is in english only, and the other color is brown.

I'm gonna decide to believe in the bad translation thing... from wiki...

"In various Romance languages, including the Spanish and Portuguese dialects used in Latin American and parts of Africa, a variety of words cognate with the Latin niger and sounding similar to the English word nigger are used without the disparaging connotation the word holds in English."

I just can't believe that it could happen otherwise and has anyone ever read instructions or directions from a product that was made in another country when they went the cheap route for translations... can be pretty funny - I'm sure everyone's had at least one email with samples!

Still not acceptable but at least a plausible explanation.

on the bright side (because every situation has one if you look hard enough)
the little girl made it to 7 years old - which means she's already in school and social situations
and had never heard that word before
    that's something.

Damn couches! I knew they were up to something!

...I've seen a lot of things with really bad English translations coming from china as of late.

    lol! tim you are BAAAD!
and I'm going with kaediem - I would like to believe that since it originates from china
it's more than likely a case of lost in translation
soooo not right but that's probably the case
if anything, china should listen up and proof all their exported goods
