In terms of maintaining lensrank, I've found two things that work pretty well. The first as many of you will already know is to updated something on each lens daily, even if it's only shuffling a few modules around or adding a few sentences to an existing module. The second, and I guess lesser known fact, is that the introduction of an ebay module appears to give you a massive boost up the rankings. I did this on both my lenses and it reversed a daily decline and resulted in a boost up by about 500 positions. The decline sets in pretty quickly following the boost if you don't keep your lenses updated.

Does anyone have view on the impact on your google rankings if you get a steady decline in lensrank?

I doubt it has any noticeable effect.

I have one lens that ranks well at Google and gets a steady trickle of traffic and it's not ranked high at Squidoo since I started it mid to late last year.

stupid question by a stupid squidoo n00b:
Is it right that the only way to get on someone elses lens is to mail them, or have them randomly find your site?

I have found that earnings and traffic has a huge impact on lensrank as well. I have one lens that I have not updated in weeks and it keeps climbing in lensrank (currently at around 300). This lens has had some affiliate sales and is currently on the top 100 most profitable. It has moderate traffic.

Other lenses of mine had sudden increases in traffic with limited content updating and they climbed in rankings as well. One in the top 100 and the other at around 300.

I feel if you have a lot of traffic and a good amount of affiliate sales for a lens, it will run on autopilot and maintain lensrank without updating. Updating content does help, too, though. I do agree with the ebay thing. Thanks for reminding me to add that module on more of my lenses. :)

    It would be.

Though there is one other way. Which has been around for a while. But not much information has been released. I'm documenting it at the moment and will publish it as a lens soon.

    Here's the other way...

    Lensmaster Bookmarklets: http://www.squidoo.com/bookmarklet

They may still have to randomly find your site, but if you follow the tips for Webmasters you will give plenty of incentive for Lensmasters to bookmark your site to their appropriate lenses. If not for the novelty value alone.

I'm drafting another lens where I'll be adding all the sites I come across which have implemented the Lensmaster Bookmarklet feature. There'll be a Guestbook so anyone who has such a site can also be proactive and tell me where to find them.

Anyone here getting less traffic to their lenses these past few weeks?

This is for anyone that was getting a few hundred visitors+ per week.

I don't think I've seen less. Maybe slightly up. But not by much.

    Oh okay.

I had a lens getting 1500-3000 visitors/week for a couple of months straight...and now its only a little over 300/wk

There has been mention in the squid lounge about some changes that have been made that is affecting google traffic. I haven't personally seen in on my lenses though, but I am not receiving the type of traffic you were. Have you checked your key tag rankings in google for the lens in question to see if your rankings have dropped?

That's one hell of a drop.

Do you have any idea where the traffic was coming from?

I'm getting no where near the sort of traffic being referred to by Salinas, but I'm seeing a similar drop-off in traffic from week to week, despite maintaining my LensRank. Are there any theories on why this may be?

I've noticed that some people aren't using dashes to separate the keywords in their lenses.

I'm curious, is there a reason why some of you aren't using dashes? Is it due to personal preference, or is there some other reason surrounding this? :)

Would you consider lenses without dashes more original?

I agree with you; lens names withdashes would be better, but I think many people don't realise it.

There is an argument that 'word-of-mouth' referrals do better with simple names, but how often does that happen?

Just start building lenses and add tags related to your topic.
