Hello, Does anyone know why google will not run ads with the word "gecko"? They say it is a trademark but I don't think you can trademark and animal. I guess it is because of Gieco but it seems very strange to me. Anyone else have this problem?
It should depend on the context. If i were running an ad campaign for lizards, there should be no issue with an ad along the lines of "Get your child a friendly pet Gecko today!" If it was technology based, then in this case, the trademark would apply and you can rightly be rejected for using the term gecko here.
Appears you may have been hit by an over-zealous reviewer. You should point out to them that a trademark generally covers a particular industry. In this case there is no trademark on the word Gecko for lizards as it is a name only. Unless you are targetting technology (in this case Netscape I believe owns the trademark) or restaurants (http://www.geckosgrill.com/legal.php has the trademark it seems) related keywords you should be ok.
I will try that. The weird thing is that I have other sites with adsence ads with the word gecko in it. Thanks for your help.
ive encountered this trademark problem before just email adwords support and ask for reconsidertion to put your ads using the word "gecko" in your adcopy.
gecko is that playstation character/game? anyone remember him? i doubt thats why, but theres a chance..
