Well if everyone starts thinking that no one will take efforts to change anything, someone has to start somewhere if we are to make this world better for everyone.

@annie about the euthanization, I think its gov. who put those rules in place that is responsible , and those vets need to be hanged, since when saving a babies life requires a permit or legalities ? I think u should change ur vets asap. Its not like that baby was a mutant and was gonaa kill everyone it saw.. freaking killer vets, imagine if you found their kids on road hurt bad and needed attention asap and all reply u get is ooh sorry you need to report the case first to the police before we can patch and save his life, i would like to see those vets reaction than..

Just shows how pathetic we become sometimes and we should stick to our humanity no matter what, rules/policies are not built to stop us from doing whats humanely right and one should realize that. Geez now i am even  er at those vets and the community you live in..

It's not like that. On my street a piece of land was sold for $10 million, 2 years ago. the trees were torn up, the wildlife was left homeless and 8 houses were built there. There's no way I could have stopped that from happening, it was private property and I don't have even a million dollars, much less 10 million. And this is a relatively small parcel. :(

Another developer recently bought a large piece of land about a half mile from me and built a huge upscale marina, displacing the wildlife. Plus it was wetlands, so it makes you wonder how that deal was even legal.

I have the misfortune of having bought my house in an area that was surrounded by nature and wildlife 30 years ago, but all that is changing. We're on a lake and now it's all prime real estate and no one cares about the animals when they see $$$. I know, I've gone to township meetings and spoken with our local representatives about it. There's a lot of nice land around here that's going to be developed and there's not a darn thing I can do about it. Many animals will be left homeless and die. I have the will but I lack the money. I'm just an average person with an average home. I don't have big piles of $$$ like the ones who want to build. :(

My community isn't responsible for the laws requiring permits. The state of Michigan is. On the other hand, I don't see that my community cares too much about the animals. I'm not happy about it either.

many things need to be changed, but most of all is the educational side of the wildlife realm we live in. As for making sure your home is wildlife proofed is a great start. Most of you don't know what I am talking about and never will. Most animals can find many ways into your homes, you would say no way but I could show you many ways.

Raccoon are not necessarily driven out of their home, they are and opportunistic animal. They are an evolving animal. They have found that living in our homes is a lot more comfortable than living in a hollow tree. As for what Annie had to go thru I feel her pain. It is not something any of you would like to handle in the future. You have about 48 hours to take a one week old pup and keep it living. If no one is willing to help, what do you do? This is why we would say to put the animal down and humanly euthanize it. Would any of you let a cute defenseless raccoon and pups move into your attic. After you see what they can do you will say no way.

most home we do attic restorations in it will cost an average of 10k to remove the bio hazards, and return the insulation back to its original form. Annie keep in mind that your home insurance may cover some of the or all of the attic restoration. check your home owner policy and file a claim. I am for hire.
