nope, you are not legally allowed to use trademarks in your name - but they can't sue you for millions. Usually worst case senario is that you will be given a cease and desist order - which means you lose your site and domain name.... depends on if it is worth the risk. Sometimes it is :)

The only domains I've ever seen with ebay in them have been phishers trying to get me to enter my ebay info.

    What are your plans?

I suppose you can have e.g. nicebay.com meaning "nice bay" provided your site is realy about the nice bay, and not related to ebay

Same thing that I said before. You can do it, but be prepared to lose all of your hard work if the decide to ask you to give it up.

Chances that they would do that are pretty slim though - I can't imagine it getting big enough to cause them any concern ;)

We had a domain years ago, ebaymotots [ebaymotors] and we received desist notice about 6 months after registration. However, sites like ebayfeehike.com and others are still around.

Not everybody gets caught. But those that do tend to regret it.

There used to be a site... ebaychatter.com .... a site where ebayers could post links to their auctions. It was mostly the bizarre auctions, but nonetheless, it received a lot of traffic. It was going strong for quite some time until ebay took it over.
If you're going to put your hard earned money, not to mention your time into a site, you should probably make sure that you don't have any trademarked names in the domain name.

It's a big mistake to use a trademark in any business, domain, etc. Ebay as the example here has an entire department of cyber police that hunt for sites with "ebay" in them all day everyday to shut them down. If this is something you are going to be putting a lot of work in, don't use ebay's name, pick something to do with "auctions" or similar. It is also important to mention that you can contact ebay and ask for permission, they may approve your site or business plan as ebay friendly and give you the ok with constant checkups from their staff to make sure you stay compliant.

Absolutely! I agree with this. The bottom feeders eBay employ to harass individuals would have a tough time forcing you to relinquish a domain that happens to include 'ebay' but focuses on an unrelated subject. On the other hand if your content is directly focused on eBay and related content then tread very lightly :D

In eBay's terms and conditions when you sign up through CJ it says you agree not to use the term "eBay" or variations of any eBay company trademarks before the third "/" of your URL. So you probably wouldn't receive your commissions and risk getting kicked out of their affiliate program.

Bingo. Kudos to you for reading the fine print.

Those among you who haven't done what diostebendiga did probably ought to
do so right now if you did something similar.
