To start off, the Keyword Tracker is a GREAT tool. The fact that it tracks historical data is great.

I'm 99% happy with it, and being free, definitely not complaining. The only problem I can think of doesn't even affect me, but it does affect a lot of people. The fact that it uses the deprecated Google API, and requires a a Google API key. Those of us who have been around for a while have an API key, but no new people can sign up for them. So that effectively rules out very many new signups to use the KeyWord Tracker.

So, my main suggestion is that the tool be rewritten so that an API key isn't necessary. Then it will be open to many more users.

It would be great if it had all 3 SE rankings on one line so you don't have to have 3 lines for one keyword.

Also, if you could click on the ranking # from a particular SE and it would launch a new window with the search so you could see the results manually.

I'm just getting this discussion started. Please, add YOUR thoughts.

Exactly my point...I'm hoping they'll change it so you can use it too.

I'd like to be able to refresh all keywords in one go...
[Edit]Scratch that, I've just noticed the bloody big Check All button[/Edit]
and I'd love the tool to identify other keywords that the site ranks for (but that might be asking too much).

Here's another free Keyword and rank tracking tool that does NOT require the Google API. We are in beta right now so use the code rtbeta1 to sign up for an account. www.RankTrend.com.

In addition to tracking keywords, you can track your rank in the 3 major SEs and you can even track your AdSense revenue. You can customize your reports and place trends from multiple sources on the same chart.

We are even working on a correlation tool that will tell you how correlated particular data sources are to each other (say Google rank to AdSense or MSN rank to AdSense)

I hope you find this new tool useful.

Hi joeunplugged. That's really cool that you're developing another keyword tracking tool, however this thread is specifically about the keyword tracker tool on Digital Point. Also, being that you've only got a few post under your belt, you may want to go easy on the self promotion.

One of the reasons I use the DP tool is trust. I won't try out a new tool until I know more about it, because unscrupulous marketers could collect all the data being tracked and use it for their own advantage.

I checked out your site, and I'll offer some constructive criticism...To be honest, the design doesn't really convince me that this is a company I should trust. It seems a little thrown together. You guys may want to put a little more work into the design before releasing this tool.

Understood. Pardon me. I just looked for a way to delete it myself but I don't see one.
    Point taken - thank you.
Yep, good point - "Trust is earned not given" as I always tell my kids. I'm definitely not looking to steal data; just want to add value & features to glean some more info from this type of data. The DP tool is great - I use it. I'm just trying to get a better picture of my own data and especially it's correlation to other data by trending them together (like having all 3 SEs on one chart like you mentioned). I've done this kind of analysis before in another industry and thought others might be interested too.
Thanks - seriously, I'm sure you have better things to do with your time so I appreciate you taking the time to look and offer advice (especially the constructive way you did it!). I've been a bit more concerned about the code and the trends that it gives me up until lately. Anyway, if you want to PM me more especially on how to build trust I would appreciate and value it.
    _____________________________________________________
So back to your original suggestion on having the DP keyword tool not use the Google API; that would be nice. I suspect that part of the reason they use it is because they have so many users and from what I can remember the original Google API only allows 1000 hits (or something like that) per API per day. So by having each user have an API they could get around that limitation.

I read in another post somewhere here that DP was replacing the old API with the AJAX API (which looks really powerful - from a developers standpoint)... but I don't have confirmation on that. Perhaps that API won't have the limitation so they could stop asking for a user to supply an API key. Either way I would imagine that since this tool is so popular DP will eventually address this to keep the users and the traffic coming. If they do indeed do that of course that will open it back up to new users. I would imagine that since it's free and they don't make money on it (directly anyway), it might take a little longer than were it a paid service.

    Thanks again.

My company has built a keyword tracker that does not require you to have your own API key. Full disclosure: it is $250/month (because it is part of a much larger package that includes other SEO tools, website content management, hosting and analytics). If there is enough interest, perhaps we could figure out a way to split it off of from the other tools and create a cheaper version focused only on keyword tracking.

Here is an image of the historical keyword graph it produces:

Ok, guys, this thread isn't for promoting other products. Let's quit the self promotion.

I started this thread because I wanted to see what suggestions other Digital Point users have for the Digital Point Keyword Tracker. We've gotten way off topic now. Let's get back to the point.....suggestions for improving the Digital Point Keyword Tracker.

Check out Aaron Wall's seobookdotcom site and click on tools. He has a bunch of free SEO tools and the keyword ones do NOT need an API.

    Hope this helps.

Yes, but it doesn't seem to work that well.

I just did a search that says my keyword ranks 5th, when it really ranks 1. I know this cause it's our best keyword.

I haven't seen a recommendation for this change.

I have a large group of keyword tracking links belonging to a single customer which I would like to delete in it's entirety without having to go through each one individually and select the red 'x' button.

Is it possible this function already exists and I don't know about it or how much trouble would it be to add this feature if it doesn't already exist?

Thanks for the great Keyword Tracking Device.
