Buying Great Domain Names, Terrible TLDs?

Do you think this is worth it? There are some great domains with keywords searched 10k+ times a day, but terrible TLDs. Do you think it would benefit if I get a good domain, but completely unrelated/terrible TLD such as .bz, .org.uk, .nu, .tv, etc.?

I've seen some popular sites do this. imageshack.us is a pretty bad TLD, yet they're doing great. What do you think?

Any ideas about this? I'd like to know.

Also, will buying a .eu (europe) affect my position at all? For example, will it list me a lot better under google.co.uk?

They are great for SEO. You can get short keyword domains and for any average computer user, easy to remember.

    I just bought http://unblock.cc. I love it :)

Search engines have no preference when it comes to TLD's, they are all equal in their eyes.

And yes, google does give a .cn TLD more weight in google.cn, but a .com can still rank number 1 for any term in google.cn. just like a .cn can rank number 1 for any term in google.com.

Users however, most people say most people do not like clicking on things other then .com, .net and .org, although I dont find any basis on that, I have many .info that rank in top 10, and as far as I can tell it does not effect the click amounts from potential visitors.

I am also a fan of getting good keyword titles in other tlds, .info I use the most. Most of the great .com domains are only parked.

From SEO point of view there is no difference but if you are thinking of valuation based on domain name only, there will be a major difference as .com is much more valuable

exactly, i like .info 99 cent for a year on godaddy, i got toins of nice keyword domains with about 12 hours of work, and about 72 hours of link building work, earn 3 a day on average, some up to 10-15 a day from mostly MSN and google image traffic, and no updates since i make em.

From this strat alone i have been able to make about 130-140 websites, and average about 350-500 in adsense a day from them. Its definantly a way to make money but.

You dont just need a good keyword in your domain name, you need high quality informative content that is unique and useful to the reader.

What I do is pick a keyword, pick the 5 or 10 main subkects, write nice 800 word articles on them.

then pick all the long tail searches, and write shorter articles on them, and throw that site up with a template i edit a bit, color wise, pictures, etc for a nice unique look. Takes about 12 hours per site, then i spend about 7 2hours in promotion and move on, even not updating these sites, they continue to earn 3-4 on average a day, some as high as 10-15 depending on trafficv and keyword.

Well, I thought that .COMS were given more weightage than any other tld. I mean if you register abcdefg123.com and abcdefg123.info, and do no kind of SEO for either of them, then if you search for "abcdefg123", the .COM would rank higher than .info.

Nah, Matt Cutts alteast said for google, they give no weight over one TLD over another.

Glad to hear that, WunschShrek :)

Yes, domain extension does not matter. Just make sure you have a keyword domain for SEO purposes :)

Ok what I meant by that is this . Lets say the subject is "baseball Caps"

I use http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/suggestion/, and pick the 5 or 10 most searched for 'subjects' on baseball caps.

So If it was basball caps, I would make the follow sections on my basbeball-caps.info site.

    New Era Baseball Caps
    Custom basbeall Caps
    Fitted Baseball Caps
    Wholesale Baseball Caps
    Minor League Basbeball Caps

Then you write a high quality article on each of them, the logner the better, atleast 3 pictures with each article (using good seo techniques, im not going over this atm, you shoiuld know this at this point)

Then when you have your articles all written and looking nice, you go back to the trusty suggesstion tool and try to find some longtail words.

Ok so if you type in "new era cap" You get tons of searchs that only get 1 or 2 searches a day on MSN. These are easy to rank for, and if you rank for 100 of them, then thats 100 a day on msn, on google that could be 400 a day.

So then I just write articles on the smaller terms aswell, quaity articles, and then spend a week or so building links with good anchor text, 15 or so to each inner page atleast, and then move on.

Remember tho, quality information is key, if you have duplicated, false, poorly written, etc content, it will be much harder to aquire natural links, and people wont use your article as often since it will most likely also be poorly written, so even less links.

If you can't write that great, you can find someone on here to write great quality artciles for around 10 dollars a pop depending on word count.

    Good luck guys.

All TLDs are good. I have lots of PR3 .infos with minimum SEO.

TLD is not as important as backlinks. Everything is backlinks and anchors. And some good on page Seo.

Don't worry about other things. If you need to, submit to good directories like Bam Directory and Wicked Directory!
