Hi, I've seen a web site, which is nothing special in its business but it has been ranked #1 in Google on very popular search term. Some say it is because the back links but doubt that this is the main factor that gave them top listing. What do you think about backlinks? Cheers
i think following factor affecting on it - it must have old domain,i mean domain age is old - must have more trusted links for that keyword more one way links also give good weight in ranking.
It is impossible to rank high on search engine's without backlinks. This is where you put your anchor text that contains your target keyword. This is what I know.
High Quality Contents +Lots Of Quality backlinks (ultimately PR) --is the way to rank high on Google. Both are extremely important and can not do without each other.
It's less important this year. Latent Semantic Indexing is becoming more crucial, but it is very important nonetheless.
backlinks was forever.. from the start google was giving importance to a website by means of backlinks and relevancy between two linking websites. but i doubt about reciprocal linking. i already stopped submitting my website to directories requiring reciprocal links. i heard that most search engines are now ignoring reciprocal links.
Backlinks are indeed important. Submit an article to hundreds of directories and you will see the results pretty soon (especially for low ranking sites).
Relevency is most important to high rankings, backlinks come second. If that site is most relevent then it will be ranked highest. Look at its title, Meta description, content and H1 tags.
Backlinks always matter for ranking a site highly. Can't imagine a site that does well without them. What probably matters most is the type of backlinks (reciprocal or non-reciprocal) you're getting and how long you've had them for.
Nope, Google recently eliminated backlinks and replaced it with HR as its primary driver of SERPs. HR was once believed to be a complex formula ... but I've been able to obtain the details from one of my Google sources: HR = log(HO) - 0.25 * (UO^2) ==> like PR, scores capped at 10 and cannot go below 0 Where: HO = Outbound links to hot people UO = Outbound links to ugly people The founders take turns coming up with the Hotness Rank score, so some rather odd sites you wouldn't expect to have a high rank get ranked near the top when it's Sergey Brin's turn. This also explains why so many sites have been dropped from the rankings ... we're all just linking to too many ugly people. Skeptical? After one of my blog contributors posted this picture, my HR went down 3 whole points. Coincidence? I think not. For those wondering how to conduct SEO under the new HR scheme ... here's a hint: links to pictures of Sergey or Larry automatically get a HR 10, and links to Eric get an automatic PR 9. OK, in all seriousness ... backlinks matter ... BIGTIME. no backlinks = no ranking = no Google traffic. Anita
